Sorry I didn’t get the news update out yesterday like I promised. I made the report over at Starfox-Online last night. Here’s a repeat of the info:
If you don’t have a subscription to Nintendo Power, you may not have known that every month, for the last nine months, there has been a special page dedicated to a confirmed character in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Each of these pages has a high resolution image of the character and a little of its history. So far, they have done Solid Snake, Mario, Pit, Kirby, Wario, Pikachu, Meta Knight, Link, and this month, Fox McCloud. Here’s the info presented on the page:

FOX McCLOUD
FIRST GAME APPEARANCE:
Star Fox - Super NES (1993)
KNOWN FOR:
Piloting skill, marksmanship, animal magnetism
BIOGRAPHY:
Following in the footsteps of his father James, Fox McCloud is an expert pilot and leader of the Star Fox team. Alongside his team-mates Slippy Toad, Falco Lombardi, and Peppy Hare, Fox earned a reputation as one of the galaxy’s most skilled mercenaries by completing numerous seemingly impossible missions, including thwarting the ambitions of the evil Emperor Andross on several separate occasions. Although Fox’s main claim to fame is his talent in the cockpit of his Arwing fighter, his prowess on foot is equally impressive-as evidenced by his mission onto Dinosaur Planet, where he met his love interest, Krystal. Fox’s speed and aptitude with a laser rifle make him a ferocious fighter.

Want to see it for yourself? Wish granted!
Notice how it doesn’t say anything about Fox’s Assault or Command excursions. Does this mean that Nintendo will be ignoring the story they made after Adventures? Or does it mean that the ending in Command that had the Star Fox team returning to relative normalcy will be considered the canon one? What other possibilities does this suggest? There is only one other character left to review before they will either have to release the game or announce new characters, Samus. That brings us to our next bit of news.
The Game Developer’s Conference for 2007 will be going on all next week (March 5 - 9). Shigeru Miyamoto will be the keynote speaker and it is expected that he (and others) will make announcements about Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. I’d say it’s fairly reasonable to expect one or two more Brawl characters to be revealed and perhaps some information on Star Fox Wii during off-stage interviews.
So how about that? Krystal gets mentioned again in Nintendo Power and we should be getting more Brawl details next week. We are entering the time of year when games start coming out faster and closer together. Hopefully we’ll see the games we’ve all been looking forward to in the near future.
