This is the third set of questions sent to Alésia Glidewell, the voice of Krystal in Star Fox Assault. The questions this time focus on her voice work in relation to Star Fox Assault.
- KA: How did you come to be involved with the voice acting for Star Fox Assault?
AG: My agent submitted my voice over demo then I went to an audition and that was that. Unless you’re big time you usually just have to audition and go to callbacks like everybody else.
- KA: What kind of reference material did you use when deciding what voice to usefor Krystal, for instance, did you play Star Fox Adventures before doing voice work for Star Fox Assault?
AG: I wish I had, however, things usually happen really fast and you aren’t given much prep time. Basically, the director just explained to me what they wanted her to sound like, I gave them some options, and they chose what they liked best.
- KA: What was the process like voicing Krystal for Star Fox Assault, anything special when working with Nintendo/Namco?
AG: Nothing too out of the ordinary. I’m usually off in a booth and the director, audio engineer & sometimes a translator are all sitting behind a glass window. With Star Fox Assault, I got to watch some clips from the game and the really fun part was watching the director get up and do funny motions then say, ‘make a sound to go with that.’ It was a fun challenge to make up different sounds to go with the various motions as sometimes it wasn’t even the real sound of the motion that they wanted, but a huff or grunt or sigh type sound that might seem appropriate to that moment in the game.

You know, the thought of the director performing bizarre gestures to coordinate his voice actors reminds me of Mr Burns’ crazy hand signals for Homer at the bat. XD
wow so that’s how she got into starfox *ears point sideways and thinks* I wonder what type of sounds? still… kool!
