Glitcher sent me a snippet of Britain’s NGamer magazine, part of an article about Brawl. Notice the distain they seem to have for our heroine. Click the thumbnail for the full-sized image.
Notice my disdain for this seemingly universal attitude amongst gaming press with the anti-Krystal feelings, DESPITE how Sakurai was CLEARLY interested in including her, his feelings on wanting to add more female characters, Alesia’s info being taken DOWN conspicuously, AND the fact that she was THE most popular female character in the Japanese poll.
I’m starting to want her playable just so all of these haters will STFU.
Man. That’s why I don’t read professional video game publications anymore. Too many opinions, and even if I wasn’t opposed to opinion being in a professional publication, I don’t agree with about 70% of what they say (Granted, I liked the Xenosaga series, and most of the gaming market thinks it sucked, but hey). Rayman? Game and Watch and Wario fit the “wonky character” category much better. Tony Hawk? Do we really want a real person in a fantasy fighting game (What’s next? Chuck Norris?)? Turok? Yeah. Right. Stick Gordon Freeman in there too while you’re at it. Or Liu Kang. I think Snake pushes the potential for an “M” rating far enough without needing a blood-soaked dinosaur hunter.
yeah, I saw that, I check the the smash bros forums daily, and somebody posted that. Its all bull, and the gaming press are not more informed that the average person, and their opinions don’t matter any more than regular fans either (the press probably just have inflated perceptions of themselves because they are published, so somehow that gives them authority. These guys don’t know anything, any more than the guys at IGN or Gamespot (who also really don’t know anything.)
At this point, logic dictates that she will be in, look at the poll. the characters with multiple votes on Sakurai’s initial poll have been getting confirmed, and continue to be confirmed (Olimar W00t!), and Krystal is right up there, right in between other characters that have already been confirmed.
as for the whole voice actor thing, why would Nintendo bother to hire a voice actor (rather than use archived dialog) for only an assist trophy? And why would they be so hasty to make her take the info down, if she was only an AT?
I just can’t wait till she turns out to be playable to all the haters can eat it.
Rayman is WAY below Krystal in coming to SSBB and Tony Hawk who thought of that he can’t fight he’s on a stickin stakeboard.Krystal for Brawl.Tony Hawk and Rayman not a chance.
Agreed. I like Tony Hawk and all, but he belongs in his own genre. Both he and Turok would be so out of place in this game; I thought Snake was a push.
Snake may be a bit of a push, but he still looks great.
Krystal feels like a shoe-in at this point to me.
Every other popular character on that poll is in but her and Ridley, not to mention that whole voice actress website business. :P
Tony Hawk? C’mon, they can’t be serious. I think Krystal is a heck of a lot better of a chance!

How could they not envision her as a playable character? They can’t be serious.

Shoooo heartless … how can anyone hate Krystal???
Agreed. I like Tony Hawk and all, but he belongs in his own genre. Both he and Turok would be so out of place in this game; I thought Snake was a push.
I’d like to see Turok in this. His Final Smash? The Nuke!
