The Japanese gamers have finally found all the unlockable characters in Brawl. I now must resort to hoping against hope that Krystal will be a playable character in the North American version.
I will enjoy this game immensely, that much is certain, but I’m still kinda bummed because I created and actively worked on a campaign to get her into the game since May 10, 2006. Barring Nintendo cutting Krystal completely, we still know she has some role in the game because of the Alésia Glidewell thing. Thus far, it’s looking like she’ll be an Assist Trophy.
The next task: Find video/imagery of Krystal in Brawl, not counting the sticker.

There’s her role. Randomly and briefly speaking to Fox or Falco the way Peppy and Slippy did in Melee. She’s not even an Assist Trophy. She’s barely in the game at all.
Personally, I’d rather it be that than an assist trophy.

Well, I’ll say this much: at least my prediction R.O.B. the totally useless robot being a playable character was spot on. Ha! I bet no one else saw that coming. Who’s the man, huh? WHO’S THE MAN!?
Well, I know I’ll just be repeating what I’m pretty sure all of you are thinking, and what millions of others are going to post, but it’s pissing me off.
Nintendo said they were going to remove clones, partly because of the Final-smash/super-smash ball whatever. Yet… Fox has a total of TWO! (2) clones, in Brawl. Not to mention Luigi, Toon Link, or Ness. What I’m confused about… Is why they would hide veteran characters? Veterans arn’t that exciting as unlockables in my opinion.
Here’s my theory, a very big stretch but it never hurts to be opstimistic. Both version got delayed, Japan and US. BUT! US got pushed back a lot farther, March 9th? C’mon! Japan’s push back was 4 days. (Might be bad math due to date line) And the US version got pushed back 20ish days. 20 days is a bit much to fix a bug that the Japanese programmers aparently fixed in 4 days. I have a hunch, that the US programmers grew a back-bone, and decided to take out some of the Japan-only game characters. I don’t even know what the “Robot” character came from, Lucas was confirmed in US, but Ness is a clone and Japan-only. You never know. There might be more Krystal fans in the US than Japan.
Worst characters: Robot (What game is that anyway?), and Mr. Game and Watch.

As for Krystal’s two or three lines in this game, at this rate I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just recycled dialogue from Assault.
True, because Alesia’s resume just said she did the voice acting for Krystal. Unfortunaly, she also did it for Samus and Knuckle Joe… Which gives you the idea that she is talking to Fox on his comm for a breif second. If they copied Assault stuff, Alesia still gets credit for it.
I’m so depressed now. I always had a feeling that she wasn’t in the game, because of the Alesia leak. You’d think that would be good news, right? But considering what games she’s from… Pissy.

Well, the leaker I saw, the one on IGN, that was his main thing. Wolf was playable, Krystal was an Assist Trophy. I mentioned this on the podcast. I checked again and found that the post had been removed since I saw it.

Another point, isn’t anyone else miffed by the fact that there are only three female characters (well, four if you count Nana) and THIRTY-TWO guys?! Talk about gender discrimination. I still think Sami would fit in nicely. Hell, maybe Ninty could have wrangled in Marina Liteyears. They sure beat chuffin’ clones - PRE-EXISTING clones at that. So much for the dream roster we all hoped for. Guess it’s not worth buying Brawl any more. *moseys off to play Starfox Adventures*

It’s not just the Krystal absence, some of the characters they added as unlockables are st00pid. Like ROB, Toon link, and Mr. Game and Watch. Plus, they added some of the bad unlockable veterans.

The odds of N.O.A. trying to make such a drastic change to the game before its U.S. release is zilch, not least because it will cause outrage in Japanese gamers who will feel they’ve been cheated. I’m as disappointed as you that Krystal is not playable, but for Pete’s sake, get over it!

Krystal was the most requested female character. Other than the characters who eventually revealed playable, only Geno and Ridley had more votes, and Ridley was a made a boss.

Sakurai’s character poll makes no sense. All the characters that he took from it and made playable, are actually characters he was going to use from the very beginning…then he completely ignores all the rest. Sakurai said in a recent interview, that fans are happy to see their favorite characters, even when the characters don’t even move! That guy clearly is out of touch with the fans.

Well yeah, for Assault differences, they had to take out the facial expressions to add lip sync to make it seem like they were talking in English, and didn’t put them back in. That’s what I think anyway.

Well, we crossed our fingers, and it’s a shame that such great potential was snuffed in favor of another Fox clone…My only disappointment with the game thus far, however.

2. In Melee, didn’t Falco also speak on the comm link? And he was a playable character…in Melee AND Brawl!
3. (This is my opinion, btw)- You shouldn’t believe anyone expect the people who made it (to say, OFFICIAL updates, not leakers).
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m still hopping for a playable Krystal, regardless of what anyone says, until I have my hands on the game, and play it all the way through (THE ENTIRE THING, NOT JUST SSE).
Ugh.
Krystal. Come on, Nintendo, you could do SO much more with her. She really deserves more than this. Just a couple lines in the game? Do we even know what she’s saying?
As cool as Wolf and Falco are, I’d definitely rather have Krystal in there. Probably to replace Falco. Or at least, I wish they got rid of the robot and put Krystal in, instead.

Yes, Sakurai said not all characters are unlocked through SSE, but some of the characters were unlocked by different ways. Marth, Jigglypuff, Sonic, Toon Link, and Wolf were unlocked through different modes then SSE.
What ways were they though? Because I remember seeing a SSE video introducing Marth, and a picture with Wolf’s name (in Japanese) under his face, like when the characters are introduced in SSE.

I heard Marth was unlocked through Classic Mode, and Jigglypuff was unlocked through Break the Targets. I’m not sure about the others, but I heard they weren’t unlocked through SSE.
Also, the “All Characters Unlocked” screen appeared after Wolf was unlocked. My only hope now is that Krystal is in the American version rather then Wolf, because she is a lot more popular over here, while Wolf is more popular in Japan…but I don’t think Nintendo was smart enough to do that.
*double sigh* Somehow I picture players years from now still debating the possibility that Krystal is hidden deep, deep within the game. She’s in there somewhere. I know she is! Yessir, just you wait and see!
If they could change the Topis from Seals to bird things in Melee, and could replace Slippy with Krystal in that scene in Assault, they can certainly replace Wolf with Krystal.

maybe for the US, the roles of Wolf and Krystal will switch with Krystal becoming playable and Wolf being the cameo.
I’d like to be in denial and hope she is in the U.S. version, but since the game is WI-FI, I’d assume the U.S. version would not be compatable with the Japanese version if she was added.

Meh. I’ve more or less given up hope. Krystal has been messed over left and right since she was trapped in that piece of crystal in Adventures. Heck, for that matter, the StarFox franchise has been messed up since Adventures, to some degree in each game. It’s like Nintendo is doing everything it can to make StarFox fans stop liking it. After all, the last thing anyone playing Brawl wanted was three clones from the same franchise, so why not make StarFox have a negative connotation by doing that? It’s a conspiracy!

By now, I predict there’s about a 30% chance of a special downloadable expansion set being released after Nintendo sees how many fans they’ve upset, 30% chance that the “complete” roster is just something they’re using to throw us off, and 30% chance of Nintendo simply screwing us over again and making us wait who-knows-how-many years until the next Smash Brothers before we can see Krystal, Midna, Geno, Black Shadow, the Animal Crossing kid, etc in action.

What can you do eh? I support any Starfox rep in smash,and I personnaly was looking foward to using Krystal, but this is not something worth dwelling over. We should look at the fact of all the stuff we “did” get in the game, rather than what we didn’t get.
And mabey we can start a pention for downloadable content for brawl (free or paid). Nintendo has always been slow on the technological side of things, and by mabey showing that there is a market out there, brawl would be the perfect place to start(using the “appeal to the hardcore, than spread to the mainstream” stradegy). Microsoft has already made a large amount of money with their online marketplace, and I see no reason for Nintendo to miss out on the opertunity.

I’m still hoping Krystal at least ends up being an assist trophy. I know that since it’s been discovered that she has a cameo appearance as a comm character in the Star Fox stage, it seems like that will be her only role in the game. However, Falco also had a cameo appearance as a comm character in Melee…and he still turned out to be a playable character. It upsets me that Sakurai would overlook her so he could put in a second clone of Fox…but if he also neglects one of the top ranking characters of his poll as an assist trophy, then I would have to say he has something against her. Also, why would Nintendo want Alesia Glidewell to keep so hush hush over a couple lines of dialog? If this is the only role they could give Krystal in the game, then they obviously don’t consider her to be that big of a deal…yet, they don’t want anyone to know about her almost insignificant role so they’ll be “surprised”?

It didn’t matter how significant the information she was accidentally displaying. Nintendo doesn’t want leaks, either of confirmations or un-confirmations. To them, saying what isn’t in the game is just as bad as saying what is in the game. Legally too, it’s a problem, because it’s a violation of their non-disclosure agreement.
The Dojo is going to start posting updates with hidden characters, secret modes and what not, so…we might get lucky (but darn…now the Dojo is going to give out spoilers…*points at comment #92*)

Krystal seriously needs some respect. I’ve come up with a seemingly good analogy to help my point (though most of you are already aware of this.) I’m going to assume at least some people who visit this site have watched the current Battlestar Galactica series. Think about Starbuck: she’s tough, helluva pilot, independent, feisty, has an interesting personality, etc. These things are established in her first appearance in the show. Basically a character with potential to really explore. Now imagine that the writers, after introducing the character with these aspects, relegate her to an emotional support role to Apollo and Commander Adama. She no longer has much of a personality and she’s just kinda…in the background. This is basically what’s been done to Krystal. She goes from sole survivor of her planet’s destruction, going around fighting just causes, helping people in need, etc. to competing with Slippy for most times Fox has come to the rescue per mission, and then becoming a psycho bitch.
Hey Mr. Krystal, maybe your next campaign should be to get Nintendo to treat Krystal with respect in the upcoming Wii Star Fox game?
Don’t you think that if Krystal was an Assist Trophy, news of it would have surfaced by now? After all, players have already discovered all of the hidden characters; it’s a fair bet the same could be said about the trophies.

My thoughts exactly. I drew a friggin’ picture about it too: So much potential and a great start, yet turned into excrement for some unknown reason. Rare messed her up first, so I figured that it was an isolated incident and she’d be better in the next game, and I think Namco tried to some extent to make her better, but they made her too nice and forgot her “adventurer” qualities. Who knows where her Command personalities came from, ‘cuz she’s got about three of ‘em there: Psycho, Object, and Pretty Cool.
Blah. I should stop payin’ attention for now, since I go on a tirade every time I think about how she’s been buggered.

I’ve been hearing more and more rumors that Krystal did make it in as an assist trophy. Has anyone been able to confirm this yet? I sure hope she is…because they made TINGLE from Majora’s Mask an assist trophy! If Nintendo even considers Tingle to be a more important character then Krystal…then I doubt she’ll even have a chance to be in the next Smash Bros. game as a playable character.
Krystal DOES NOT appear as an assist trophy. There are 21 ATs in the game, and a full list of them appears during the credits. Krystal is not among them. I’d thought that she was the second picture on the right in the list, but I was watching a low-quality video; a higher-resolution version makes it clear that this is Waluigi standing against a blue background.

Here’s my proof of my above statement. In the lower quality video, you can VERY clearly see Shadow the Hedgehog, who is not in the video you posted the link to. Isaac from Golden Sun has also been confirmed as an unlockable Assist trophy. He wasn’t in the video you posted the link to.
Yeah, that is definitley not all the ATs in the game. Like AJ mentioned…they have already unlocked new ATs that you can’t see in that video (Shadow and Isaac).
You know, I had high hopes for this Brawl game. I had hopes that Krystal would be a playable character. Honestly, I would have gladly sacrificed any character on the roster (even Sonic or Mario) for Krystal. But it was not to be. For shame.

The reason all the characters were unlocked so soon was it was designed to. Many casual gamers were upset that they never unlocked everyone (I’m still 1 missing from melee, but I don’t see why people get upset) and so that online was more fair and didn’t spoil the game.
Assist trophies could take months to surface. There is also a chance that she’ll be really hard to get if she is in there somewhere.

There it is. It showed up in the last art update on this site. It’s done in MS Paint, so it doesn’t look very good, but you might enjoy it. Also…I’d suggest ignoring most of the rest of my gallery because of weird, likely creepy in your eyes, material you’ve probably not been exposed to before. If you look, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Saddest thing is, things probably aren’t gonna get any better for Krystal in future SF games… I sincerely hope Nintendo starts treating her with some respect by the time they start on the next game…

Seconded. Namco really screwed up by bringing Panther in. I mean I guess he kinda fits in Star Wolf simply because he’s an assassin, but I really don’t see how Wolf or Leon can stand him. Also, shame on Nintendo for allowing it to happen. Krystal’s a friggin psychic! She should be able to see right through Panther. Speaking of being psychic, if I’m remembering this correctly, not once does she use her psychic abilities in Command.
Hell, Namco screwed up on just about everything in Assault, and it’s only gotten worse from there…
And here’s another good question for the idiots who developed Command: How exactly does Krystal go from constantly rejecting him in Assault to totally attaching herself to him in Command?

I wasn’t to bothered. The game used a differant graphics style. I didn’t like how Krystal became the typical gaming bimbo in some roughs though.
The biggest disappointment in terms of katt and falco is that their story lines havn’t moved since 64. I understand they are both to proud to admit they love each other, but come on, even if they don’t get together, have some plot advancement. (I have yet to unlock all the plots on command yet though)
The games, both assault and command, they do have there problems, but I think they are under rated. Assault was fantastic when you weren’t running around on foot. The multiplayer was great also. People who claim starfox 64 (aka lylat wars) had better mp really should go back and play it. It was horrendous.
Plus, Krystal was gorgeous in assault, and still had he strong, but not overly butch personality.

She wasn’t very strong in Assault at all. As mentioned by Esilidon before, she competed with Slippy for the highest number of times Fox had to come to the rescue each mission, and her only role was basically just being moral support for Fox. And I personally don’t like her Assault design–when Namco made that design for her and put out their promo pics of her in Playboy-esque poses, they just ended up fueling the myth that “Krystal was never meant to be anything more than a sex object used to rake in sick-minded furry customers.”
Also, I’d say Command’s graphic style has little to do with what they did to Katt.

That voice, quite honestly is AWFUL. They should’ve gotten Jennifer Hale to do the voice, like she does in the games. At least then Samus wouldn’t sound like some cocky, testosterone-loaded Bond girl. >_

Agreed about the poses. I disagree about the rescue. If you count the scripted rescues, it’s falco who needs rescued the most, which is just bizarre.
Either way, she really didn’t have much of a strong role or personality in the game, and it got even worse by the time Command came out…

I believe I have every right to say I hate the way she plays Samus. That honestly is not what Samus even sounds like in her own series.
I can honestly say that this is quite a disappointment.
As you can see here, female characters are HIGHLY underestimated. You know, I like alot of the male characters but there are no female characters I like all that much. In fact, alot of people normally don’t like the female characters are much as the males. And there are so few female characters overall. There aren’t even very many bosses (As far as I know) that far female. Talk about BS. Krystal, as you guys have said before, does deserve more respect then what she gets now. Just a few lines? I think Krystal played MUCH bigger roles in the previous games. I had high hopes for her (And I will admit that I still kind of do) being in Brawl. All I can really hope for now is that she will be an Assist Trophy (Or maybe even a deeply hidden character; Though I highly doubt it).
I think that Nintendo should listen more to their fans. She was tied in third with “Toon Link”. He made it, why didn’t she? It doesn’t really matter if the Japenese do not care if she is or is not in the game. If they didn’t want to play her, then they wouldn’t. End of story. While we, the Krystal fans in the US, would have a blast playing her.
And I can see what her moves would be. She would have her staff (Instead of a crappy Blaster like everyone else) and it really won’t matter to me what outfit the placed her into. You would think she would still have it after Adventures for obvious reasons. I mean, the “B” move would be the Fire Blast from her staff, her up “B” move would be the Boost to burn the characters under her and to help her get back onto edges. I’m not sure what would be her Final Smash would be but I’m sure you guys would have a better idea then me. But seriously. Use your imagination, Nintendo. You can do more with Krystal then you know. Besides making her some Object that just says just a couple lines.
But let’s face it. I’m living off false dreams. As of this Super Smash Bros., she won’t be playable. And if she is (As a super secret hidden character), good for her. Nintendo got it through their thick skulls that there must be more female characters and I’ll look more forward to it. But as of now… I shall live in denile. -curls up in a corner and rocks back and forth- She’ll be in Brawl, She’ll be in Brawl, She’ll be in Brawl…

Actually, we don’t really know what she sounds like. After all, she has no lines to speak of, only grunts and cries until now. Sure, there’s the way we might imagine she would sound, but that’s meaningless to anyone other than yourself. Personally, I think she did a good job considering the character. However, until Prime 2/Fusion, Samus had a less sexy look, and I imagined her voice being kinda gruff and harsh. But considering that her looks have been changed to their current state, I’d say the voice Alesia provided is the correct, and good one.
And again, I have every right to disagree. Plus, I’m not the only one who thinks this new voice doesn’t fit her.
Hmmm…everyone keeps saying, “Krystal deserves respect.” I actually have to disagree with that statement, though if you’ll hear me out, you’ll understand why.
Krystal doesn’t deserve respect because she hasn’t done anything to deserve it. HOWEVER, what she does deserve is a chance, and Nintendo hasn’t given her one so far. They’ve tugged her around like a marionette on strings and given her about 20 different experimental personalities, very few of which appeal. What Nintendo needs to do is to give her a set of values and goals beyond the “love interest” stuff, and allow her to show off the skills she’s gained in magic, psychic ability, martial arts, and warfare. There’s reference to each of these as the games go on, but she hasn’t used any of them to a reasonable degree. The purpose of a “team” is to have people with different strengths and weaknesses round out a group so that they’re much more difficult to beat, so why not have her show off her abilities that no one else has? For that matter, Slippy needs to do more mechanical/repair stuff, Falco needs to be a better pilot, and Peppy needs to work on his leadership and support skills. A major flaw of StarFox in the past is that everyone relies too heavily on one person, so why not give the others a chance to shine, including the subject of this website.
Worst part about this is that I’m writing it on a forum of fans who’ll more or less agree with me, but if I wrote to Nintendo, the message would be completely lost in the flood of fanmail they receive daily. Blargh.

Two words … Furry Fandom. Thats the reason why she wasn’t in. Some nintendo official has probably stumble across Fchan and thought “HOLY SHIT THIS ISNT CHILD FRIENDLY” As most kids would type Krystal into a goodle search engine to accidently find smut. That draws me to my second point … she has no real personalilty, she used to until assault when it all went awry after namco took over the franchise and character. If I was being honest I dont see much hope for a future Starfox Release and if there is one, itll be Namco making it … Nuff Said.

That doesn’t hold water. For one, Nintendo knows what their characters are like without having to go to Fchan. Also, there’s far, FAR more pornography for Mario characters than for Krystal, but they still included Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and… PEACH!

Have you heard Alesia’s demo tape?! She can do so many kinds of voices you honestly wouldn’t think they were coming from the same person. She does a killer Latino voice. The voice used there is easily within her range.
We are all jumping the gun here. Nintendo doesnt hate SF or Krystal. The thing was sakurai wanted to keep the # of characters at 35 otherwise you get balance issues. It was pretty much a competition between Wolf and her to get in, and SF is a cult series in Nintendo with a small, fanatic fan base, thus only one new character would be added. And yes, Wolf did have a lot of support as far as votes. (not that I prefer him over Krystal)

Good point about her needing a chance instead of respect. I guess my point was that they don’t seem to respect her enough to give her that chance. Also, Alesia’s voice for Samus sounds fine to me *shrugs*

Wolf barely got many votes at all compared to Krystal. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t even mentioned on Sakurai’s polls.

I think there maybe a possability that Krystal could appear in this North Amer release. My ththoghts come from the no release date for the european version and the video of the online test for the game from DOJO, it sais,
“But because this form of communication is greatly affected by the distance between you and your opponent, your brawls may not run smoothly if you’re really far apart—like, for instance, if you’re connecting between Japan and America.” They companys even had a test match on there own country and had some lag.
So the game could not be compatible with the Jap version or this meens it is. Just a penny extra for who’s thoghts that didn’t know this.

While I agree that I can’t find files for Zero Suit Samus’ armor pieces, I doubt someone created this list to throw people off. Its way too thorough. Who’s to say the pieces aren’t under some obscure name?
Maybe the armor pieces dont fall under ZSS. And are named differently.
