I’ll be going to this year’s Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. I leave Saturday morning and will return the Saturday after that. I don’t know if I will have access to the internet during this time, so I might not be around for a while.
Anyway, I’m going to talk to all kinds of game people, pass out business cards, and learn what I can at the various seminars. I’m a Conference Associate (read paid volunteer). If you want to talk to me and happen to be at GDC, I have requested the job of Press Room Badger (guard), so unless they have something else in mind for me, that’s where I’ll be.
There’s one session in particular at GDC that should be of major interest of us Krystal fans: the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Character Postmortem. If I can manage to get in (by getting there hours early), perhaps I can find out exactly why Krystal’s role in Brawl was nerfed. See you on the other side!
Oh, and the podcast will have to wait a bit again. Sorry for the erratic schedule.
Edit: Still Alive
No, I don’t have access to the internet at my hotel. Thus, I’ve been, or rather, haven’t been accessing the net via the wireless connection set up for us Conference Associates (not very private, so I couldn’t visit my own sites very much until tonight).
So, news has already come out that downloadable players are NOT in the works. See IGN’s interview, page 2.
I will be attending the Brawl talk early tomorrow morning. If I can find a way to discretely ask about why Krystal wasn’t included, I will. I’m nervous about asking, and certainly, there will be hundreds and hundreds of people there. They will likely ask more questions that I will be able to. I’ll see what I can do.
I’ve been working a lot at GDC, mostly covering the breakfast guard job. I prevent certain people from getting breakfast that shouldn’t. My final shift will be watching the Press room from 3:30 to 5 PM. I will also finish looking around the Expo and potentially talk to people about internships tomorrow afternoon. After that, I will be getting ready to go home. Talk to you later!

Well, heck! Good luck getting into that character postmortem session. Even if you don’t, have fun, sir.
hope so. sure would like to know and be done with it.
Yeah, there’s a lot of people who are really curious to find out what Sakurai is going to say at that conference. However, I doubt he is going to bring up characters who didn’t make it into Brawl…he’s going to talk about the ones that did make it in and why he felt they should be there.
Yeah most likely. He’l probably try avoiding any of those questions. I hope they ask him about the clones if not about wanted characters.
I wonder if the new mario kart or F-Zero will be mentioned.
Mario Kart or F-Zero? Why not more information on Star Fox Wii?
“However, I doubt he is going to bring up characters who didn’t make it into Brawl…he’s going to talk about the ones that did make it in and why he felt they should be there.”
I couldn’t agree more. Those uber-polite Japanese game developpers are notorious for avoiding questions that might reflect negatively on their product. They only see the good side of things and remain oblivious to any shortcomings….. gits.
Godspeed
We deserve the truth behind the lack of Krystal in Brawl! Though I do agree with everyone here saying that we probably won’t get an answer from them. Sigh, I just want to know once and for all why the sexy blue vixen we all know and love is not a playable character in what could very well be the greatest game ever…
Yep. That’s one thing a civilized Japanese man would want last is shame and failure to be recognized.
Okay, let’s tone it down a bit.
haha. Were not going off the handle. You can look it up and see that the Japanese have high respect for self discipline.
Have fun Mr. Krystal, tell meh everyting you learn
I don’t think Sakurai gets FULL call on who gets to be in Brawl or not. There are executive producers as well…
…I guess 2 heads arn’t better than 1.
wow, you’re going to the GDC? Nice. I’m a game design student and even I’m not going… I really need to start going, it would probably be to my benefit, as especially as I’m trying to get my foot in the door since I’m graduating soon =)
Although I hope you’re going for more than just to ask about Krystal… There’s generally alot of interesting/useful information at GDC.
well anyway, have a good time.
Could you ask if this is indeed his last super smash bros.?
(and krystal in some nice way so he would answer? ^_^)
Anyone know if he still has internet?
As long as Wii Fit 2 is not announced and another Mario Party I will be pleased. IMO I just want to believe that Nintendo’s E3 conference last year never happened (Wii Fit the highlight of their conference……And people thought Pacman VS was a joke least that was more fun than making yourself look like Richard Simmons)
All that sucks….there was no QA session in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Character Postmortem. so i guess Mr. Krystal never got to ask the question.
anyone that want the read what was said in the brawl talk go here.
