As mentioned on the podcast, I’ve put up the Star Fox Assault model that Nanogrrr sent me. It’s really good, check it out!
CORRECTION
Due to a filename error, I uploaded the wrong files. What I uploaded originally was a Little_Dragon/CharleyFox Model derivative by knoppix646 and Hironaga. The page has been updated with the correct link and the incorrect files were removed. Or, you can download it directly here. Thanks Little_Dragon for the correction.
Update
Nanogrrr sent me a new version set for the models and images so that they will be easier to use. Download them here.

Awesome, she’s perfect as always. Very good work
That one’s a lot closer to her actual Nintendo design than the one we see all over the place in 3-D artwork. Nice job, Nanogrrr, or whoever made it.
@S. Weltzin
LOL. That’s because this IS the official model of Krystal from Assault. Nanogrrr ripped it from the game rom.
that is really good!
wat programme do yu need to animate her??
3D Studio Max?? sumthing lyk that???
lol:P
,, out of subject now,,
i am making a game,,, SMASH BROZ X!!! (x for extra people -_-”
chck out my site!!
http://www.freewebs.com/smashbrozx
im hoping to put krystal in it but i cant find eny sprites…
i might jus hav 2 make sum!!!!
eny move suggestions???
—enyways,, good job Nanogrrr!!
lol
nevr mind about tellin me wat programme i need,,
jus found out
‘duh’
lol:P
Looks kinda different outside of the game. Must be a lighting thing.
Hey, that’s good. I wish I could do something like that, but I don’t even do computer graphics. Her tail also looks fluffy and stuff. Great job ^_^
@Mr. Krystal
Woo! I R dum, but at least I have a good eye…Right? n.n;
I’ve been waiting for something like this, but how come the textures weren’t provided with the zip file? All I see is an unmapped model.
I hate to mention this, but there may have been a mix-up with the files. The linked zip file does *not* contain a rip of the official Starfox model, or any textures, for that matter.
It’s a mesh by knoppix646 and Hironaga (derived from CharleyFox’s model), which is being developed for Garry’s Mod. I’ve been following their progress (or lack thereof) at the Facepunch forums for several weeks.
Nice 3D model. :)
X333 I would love to know how he managed to do that XDD. I’ve downloaded the files, and a trial version of 3D Studio Max XDD.
@Zwolf and Chris
Uh…I was kinda lazy to post my response to your past posts on this update ^^
So I posted it on the “Move Complete” update ^^
Look at it. Read it. Post thy response here =)
BTW!…3D model DOWNLOADED!!!!1!!1!1!11!!one
he cool model to bad it’s ripped from the game because then I can’t use it
An excellent model. Most of the 3D models on Deviantart usually make her seem rather…odd but this one is quite well done.
@Link
Ungh… Don’t coerce me into doing this, dammit! Getting my tail wiped is not fun, but of course, YOU wouldn’t know the feeling, WOULD YOU!?!?!?!… (MR. LINK “I NEVER LOSE” McCLOUD) You even offered me a pity cookie, I feel so dishonoured. It’s a hard emotion to explain, because at the start I considered us equal. (before I freaking played you >.>) I feel so inferior now. *Goes back to his corner*
PS: Most of this was overly dramatic in a desperate attempt to be funny, but I still feel n00bish.
Mr. K, I am really sorry that I cause so much drama on your comment forums… lol… I easily get off topic, so I must apologize for that. I give back the pity cookies and we call it even?
PS: You were right, they are very delicious.
@Zwolf
=(
Yep. I feel bad now -.-
I knowz what it feels like to lose. TRUST ME. I entered the GameStop “Luck” Tournament at launch. I lost in the second round (b/c some n00b got the Smash Ball b4 me, and I couldn’t counter a Light Arrow when stuck in the ground b/c of that pitfall item. COULDN’T COUNTER IT…)
As for us being equal, I’m (on a scale 1-10, 10 being best of the best) like a 9. You’re a 8.99999999999999999998. Feel better now, Mr. I R Feelin Srry 4 Myslf?
And I placed a king cobra in that corner so you won’t go back to it (hope you’re afraid of snakes ^^) *gives a pity cake* XD
o7
PS - Just like you, this was an attempt to be funny, so don’t take it too seriously ^^
Hi folks, actually it isn’t really a ripped model…
The captured model in itself was unusable for direct conversion,
i remodeled the actual model as close as possible
on the original one, after some restreching.
This model is in substance, a 3D layering of the original Krystal (to be short it’s not officially a rip, resulting the difference on some parts and colours and light).
No wonder I was having problums XDD. Thank you for the correction Mr. Krystal *hugs*.
It sux I don’t have Maya or 3Ds Max. However, since it’s also in .obj format, I can use it in Blender. I’ll have to re-texture it, though.
Nanogrrr: “…it actually isn’t a ripped model…”
I am vindicated! Woo!
…actually it isn’t really a ripped model…
YES!! then I can use it!
I have both blender & 3DSmax so that won’t be a problem
(but how do I apply the tex?)
.8?…
Dammit, I STILL can’t open the file in 3D Max! Which version is it compatible for?
And if you’re reading this, Nanogrrr, thanks for the model. Do you think it would be possible to rip her Adventures model and SSBB trophy as well?
@Nanogarr
That explains everything. As does the incorrect post.
@tyrannus36
I’m in the same boat. I looked for a TGA importer, but alas, no luck. It also lacks rigging for posing. I should be able to rig it, but it will only be a clay model.
KrystalFur.max and Krystalnofur.max are rigged… Krystalpolyonly is not rigged…
For TGA i think some freeware should be available on the web to convert them to JPG
Nanogrrr, I can’t open the .max files. I keep getting an error message. Did you save them in Max 2008?
@Glitcher yes, it should work… Try to import it thru “merge” command or with the maya .obj filetype.
@ Sabre & tyrannus36
as we cant see what OS you are using here are TGA to JPEG converters
for windows (XP/2003/Vista):
http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/TGA_to_JPG_Converter;34634
for Linux:
http://indiwiz.com/linux/browse.php/Apps/graphic.php#convert
and for Mac OS X (10.0 or higher):
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11559&vid=39851
(note this one is designed for 10.0 10.1 and 10.2 I don’t know how it works with newer versions like 10.6)
@Zwolf
8. EIGHT. As in one more the number 9 (NINE).
So, what the number I said above is eight*dot*nineninenineninenineninenineninenineninenineninenineninenineninenineninenineeight.
So about the number nine.
XD (meant to be funny….)
Uh. If that was too much Mr. K (as in the length of the number put out in words), just say so, and I shalt not do it again. o7
O almost forgot for windows you can also use ShockView:
http://update.docs.kr/entry/Download-Shock-View-en
note for Mr. Krystal remember the company name from the post-it’s for windows? if you don’t see the link)
@Nanogrrr
I am using blender, which can’t import .Max files, only .3ds type, but even then I have had little success.
I have started the process of porting the model fully to Blender, though I don’t understand the eye discs or how they work. (I hope I have you blessing for this btw. If not I’ll stop.) Full info here-
http://forums.starfox-online.net/index.php?topic=3045.0
At time of writing, I worked out what the textures allignment problem was, and am currectly trying to fix the thumb, and work out how to get the eyes working without popping out the head.
On a related note, my I ask what the 2 eye hole shaped brushes are for? I assume they are for either the eye shine, or a way of making the eye discs only visable in the right place.
@Nanogrrr
No, the Merge or XRef functions don’t work, and you STILL haven’t answered my question: WHICH VERSION OF 3D MAX DID YOU SAVE THESE FILES AS??
Oh, and to anyone else who can open the files, can you please upload a 3ds file so that it’s easier to import into 3D Max?
@Sabre thanks for noticing the missing polys!
Thoses sneaky ones!
I have a model fixed in a 3ds form, too.
The 2 almonds shaped stuff are for eyes. But you can suppress them if you want (the true eye are the radar dish-like polys).
For the uvw i have imported the 3ds and put a texture on,
look like the file still have the uvw mapping.
Drop the main texture on the hair, on Krystal body, and on her pendant. The eyes have their own texture.
I’ll mail a correction file to MrKrystal…
They both look the same.
?
I can easily convert .TGA to .JPG. You don’t need a super fancy program to do it…
E-mail me: minimoose64@gmail.com
Yes it is finnally here!!!!!!!!!
Since Nanogrrr is ignoring me, can anyone tell me which version of Max you’re using to open the files please?
Impressive work on the model, Nanogrrr. Thanks for sharing. I’ve already imported her into Poser.

@Little_Dragon
Ooo la la! Very nice animation! (;
@ Glitcher
3DSMAX 8 was used to make it so what version do you think you need?…
8 and it wound work with 9
I’m using 3D Max 9, so it SHOULD be able to read the files. Again, I would appreciate it if someone could provide 3ds files, or save them in 3D Max 9.
@Little Dragon.
Link is broken.
@ Glitcher
so I’m I and now I think about it 3DSMAX 9 should be able to open the file’s as I also can’t open them they must be damaged and as I tried to download them about 20 times I think Mr. Krystal should check the file on the server
I have finnally did 3-d today!!!!
It is very hard…Great job there!!!!!!
@little_dragon
holy!!, did yu make that using this model????
lol
soz, it looks really great!!
@the_canadian92:
Yes, I used Nanogrrr’s model for that animation. Haven’t rigged the fingers yet … I usually save that part for last. *Have* added phonemes and blink morphs, though, so she’s currently lipsync-capable.
wow!
lol:P
thats really sumthing!!
is it hard to do??
i tryed using 3D Studio Max 9 but it didn’t work,,
is that wat yur using???
keep up tha good work!!
Hey Little_Dragon, how are you able to read the files? Many of us can’t get them to work. I suspect they’re corrupted.
In any case, if you’ve already added a skeleton, animation and prepped for lip-syncing, do you think you could provide updated files? Much appreciated.
The Wavefront .obj file loads fine in all my applications (Poser, Ultimate Unwrap 3D, Hexagon, MilkShape, POV Ray, etc.). I haven’t tested the .max files as I don’t have 3DS Max.
Would you folk really want a Poser/DS version of this? Its versatility would be fairly limited.
I downloaded, and tested the files under 3dsmax 9 then 2008.
It worked.
If it don’t work, even by importing in 3ds,
don’t bash me with mockery/favors in bolds/suspicions
as i am not a debugger from Autodesk staff.
It’s a FREE work so please be polite or fair at least.
Thanks.
Nanogrrr, how do you get the eyes to work without the disc popping out the side of the head. I have played with the alpha settings to no avail.
I might start rigging, even without the eyes, so that could be a problem of some sort.
@Little_Dragon
I really like that GIF and I’d be interested to see the reflective lighting parameters to reproduce that plastic look on her spacesuit. (Making your file available online would be infinitely useful.) Also, where do you get your motion capture data from?
@Sabre
You don’t actually try and move the eyes themselves, merely the UVW mapping of the eyes. Select an eye (repeat, ONE eye) and go to the Modify tab. You should see a modifier called UVW Mapping. Open that and highlight Gizmo. Then you can simply move the texture of the eye without moving the eye itself. Deselect the Gizmo and repeat for the other eye.
Anyway, I’m glad to see the .max file works in Max 2008. It seems an update was in order. Nanogrrr, do you think you could remodel this to create Krystal’s appearance in Adventures? That would be ace. ^_^
@Glitcher:
Various free sources, including bvhfiles.com and mocapdata.com, though this particular walk cycle is included with Poser.
@Sabre
I think the poly eyes does not move, instead, try to animate the position of the eye texture.
@Glitcher
SFA does not work under emulation, so no Krystal adventure available…
I’ve “rigged” the eyes discs’ UV-offsets in Poser, much like Nanogrrr and Glitcher describe, and added control dials. But this advanced shader function doesn’t work in DAZ|Studio, so I might just replace the discs with normal spherical eyeballs.
If Nanogrrr grants permission, I’ll make a Poser/Studio version available to those who want it.
Little_Dragon, do you think you could contact me on MSN at glitcher2000@hotmail.com ? I’d like to talk more about the shader technique you used to create the translucent highlights on the catsuit. Ha ha! Catsuit! Geddit? You know, because she’s a… No, wait. I’ve messed up. x_x
Little Dragon.
Looks like I’ll have to do that. I tried adding eye balls once, and it wasn’t pretty. It would be possable, but would require some minour model tweaks, thus not making it a model rip. Oh, what to do…
Nanogrrr.
May I ask what the altha oblects one the eyes are/were for?
“May I ask what the altha oblects one the eyes are/were for?”
Whaaa? Say that again? o_O
@Sabre
I think it’s for the eye shine…
@Little Dragon
Yes you can made her available…
Those bits might also be for creating a translucent shadow effect over the eyes … I’ve seen that sort of thing implemented in other games.
Thanks again, Nanogrrr. I shall make the Poser/DS version available once I’ve finished rigging it.
While were at it, I might as well ask for permission to release the blender port once I’ve finished it.
I’m a bit busy atm, but it’s coming along nicly.
@ Sabre
Okay, no problem!
This is probably the best model i have ever seen.
I believe that it portrays Krystal’s fur more accurate then recent models.
It looks like her face is floating on the abundle of fur (strange).
Thanks to Little_Dragon’s help, I’ve reproduced the transparent highlights in his GIF. Another small problem: does 3D Max crash for anyone when trying to render the model with the Hair & Fur modifier activated? I had to delete it to prevent further problems.
