Zentendo Krystal Feature Part II

Here we go! The major controversies surrounding Krystal. I focused on reasons why people might hate or like Krystal. I didn’t cover the controversies among Krystal fans. We all know that there are at least two, so no need to bring them up in the comments (you know who you are).

  1. An engaging review. I was impressed with the way you made the english language your bi- uh, bishie. (I know, no cusses on this site.) I’m glad to see you defended Krystal against false accusations of the series’ declining sales, but I was puzzled at your claim that her main asset is her ‘blue fur’. Sure she looks good in blue, but I don’t see Peach as video games’ top princess because she wears pink. Besides, one thing I can criticize about Krystal is her somewhat cliché emotional and pyschic focus for the token female. It’s the same stereotypical portrayal as Deanna Troi and Beverly Crusher on Star Trek, both tending to the physical and mental well-being of the crew. I’d be more interested in seeing a Krystal who could be just as tough as the guys, as suggested by her Kursed fate in Command.

  2. NO!!! Don’t have Krystal become a villain!!! It’ll break my heart…:(

  3. Let me say first at hand of what a great choice of vocabulary and presentation. I also had the Treky idea while I was reading this. I’m a fan of the trek series and I find it awesome to compare starfox in that sci-fi fantasy world. I highly doubt that Krystal had much or enuf impact to start a decline in the series. People were told that it was put together by a scrapped game and then redone with little of the original starfox’s well-known rail shootertype mechanics. Then Assault came in and people were told that the game is also not what it was originally supposed to be and then was hammered by critics of the games quality’s. I, by a mile, think Krystals not to blame.

  4. Good. Didn’t seem biased to far one way or the other. Special mention goes to the tip toeing around the furry aspects without stomping on side into the ground.

It seemed to turn into a mini Krystal biography at one point. Other then that, thumbs up.

  5. @Glitcher

Krystal IS a member of the team, and is sent on missions like all the other team members. At the same time, she IS a woman, who tend to be more emotional anyway. That’s just the way they are.

As for the blue fur, I stand by it. You are missing my main point, which is that her blue fur is uncommon. A princess wearing pink? Don’t tell me you think that’s uncommon. My point is that the thing that sets Krystal apart from other members of the series, and other characters outside the series, is her unusual and dramatic coloration.

  6. @Mr Krystal

Have you forgotten that Falco is also blue? It would seem to me that Krystal’s colours would have more difficulty standing out if they competed with the crew’s colour scheme instead of complimenting it. More silver perhaps…?

  7. There are many types of naturally blue birds. There are many types of naturally grey and red foxes. There are many types of naturally green toads/frogs. There are many types of naturally grey hares/rabbits.

There are no naturally occurring blue foxes. There’s one that is called a blue fox, but it’s actually white or grey in color. That’s my point. It’s not that she’s the only character that is blue, it’s that she is an unusual and dramatic color for her species.

Before you bring up “but Katt is pink” remember that a pink cat is hardly anything new in regard to anime (Bagi) or other forms of popular culture (All kinds of items). And she also didn’t have the exposure that Krystal did. If SF64 had come out with full-body 3D renders of Katt, things might have been different.

And I’m not saying that that’s the only factor, just a very important one. If Krystal were grey, I have a hard time thinking the interest in her would be nearly as high, all other things identical.

  8. It’s common for birds to have blue feathers. It’s common for frogs to be green, rabbits to be grey and fox’s to be red. It’s common to see blue pigs… wait, no it’s not. Yes Krystal would stand out more if she were to be Silver or 6 feet tall. She is in a way the same as fox but for her to be blue and female, she stands out more then the other charactors as is now. It’s like looking at a bed of roses wondering why ones blue.

  9. Kinda thinking at the same time there. Pretty wierd.

  10. We’re glad to hear you can think and type at the same time, Krystalizedsugar. :)

  11. … Finaly, recognition!

  12. that was a very good read mr.krystal! ^-^
    i enjoyed it alot!!
haha! i luv that quote, ‘dude, its cool, everyone’s furry for krystal!’ XD
    so true lol ;P

  13. Fight! :P

Kinda late, but I disagree about women being more emotional. Also Kat was never a main character, and wasn’t pink in Command.

  14. Nicly written *claps* you should be proud Mr. Krystal ^^.
