Though her role was reduced, Krystal was still a pivotal character in the story of Star Fox Assault. Before missions, Krystal was constantly looking out for Fox’s safety. Fox was obviously shy about their relationship. It hadn’t advanced much farther than where it was in Star Fox Adventures. In the Japanese version, Krystal displayed a bit of displeasure at Fox’s embarrassment. But otherwise, they seemed to enjoy each other’s company, which was particularly evident after the mission to Sauria. Krystal’s comments brought an interesting point of view to the team, showing the emotions that other members wouldn’t.

One year after the events of Star Fox Adventures, Andrew Oikonny reformed Andross’ forces and began to attack the planets of Lylat. During the time between the two games, Krystal was evidentially trained by the Star Fox team in combat and Arwing piloting. She took Peppy’s position in the air while he remained in the Great Fox doing tactical work.

Krystal became the team member who found the enemys’ weaknesses. She was particularly suited for this job because of her psychic abilities. On several occasions, like the first mission, Krystal sensed enemies before they attacked, serving as an early warning to the rest of the team.

After hunting down Pigma at Star Wolf’s base and defeating Star Wolf, Wolf revealed that Pigma was not there. Panther, a new member of Star Wolf, became very attracted to Krystal. Krystal used this attraction to get Pigma’s whereabouts. Krystal mostly ignored Panther after that point, but she did seem to be charmed by him on a later mission, when the two teams were working together.

When the Star Fox team was about to leave for the Aparoid homeworld, Krystal telepathically received a distress signal from Sauria and sensed much pain. The Star Fox team temporarily stopped to look and found the planet ravaged by Aparoids. Krystal was glad to be on a foot mission with Fox, but once she reached the surface, she was overcome with righteous fury. Once Sauria was saved, Krystal and Fox spoke with Tricky. Tricky believed that Fox and Krystal were planning their marriage, and his statement about their honeymoon caught Fox off guard. Fox was obviously thinking about the topic, but hadn’t spoken about it to anyone. Krystal was amused about the whole situation.

Overall, Krystal served as the emotional voice and foreseer of the group, while she still remained the most inexperienced.
