Further Confusion is a furry convention held in San Jose, California. This year it will be held from January 12th through the 16th (next weekend). If you’re planning to attend, I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be attending on the Saturday and Sunday (14th and 15th). We could meet up and chat about Krystal, the site, and whatever else. This will be my first “real” con experience (aside from the 3 hours I spent at Rainfurrest back in 2008), and I’m excited. There’s also a chance Ayano will be there, though I haven’t heard for sure.

Got New Job, Moving to California

As of last night, I accepted a game programming job in California. I don’t even have a place to live there yet, but I’m going to start driving there tomorrow morning. I’m super excited about this and can’t wait to start, which unfortunately means that updates to the site will probably be further delayed. Sorry again about that. On the other hand, I can spend the time I otherwise would have spent searching for a new job on updates, so maybe it won’t be so bad. See you guys when I get set up in California!

Five Years of Krystal

As of today, the Krystal Archive celebrates 5 years online! It’s exciting to think that a little project I started over a Christmas break has become so successful. I’ve been busy lately, but one of my resolutions this year is to update more frequently, clean out my backlog, and bring even more Krystal awesomeness in 2011.

I’ll start by announcing the progress made on one of my longest held goals here: getting Krystal video in high resolution. Thanks to the amazing efforts of Nysut, I will soon be able to post full 1080p versions of the Star Fox Adventures cutscenes featuring Krystal. If we can figure out a good storage solution, I might even be able to bring all the cutscenes from Adventures into glorious HD. Star Fox Assault may have to wait a while, but it’s coming as well. Here are some samples Nysut sent me for just this occasion (click for full resolution).

Now, I want to begin a new tradition on the KA anniversary each year. It’s called “Krystal Archive: A Year in Review.” Each year, on January 8th, I’ll chronologically summarize the most important events in the world of Krystal in a handy list. Let’s begin.

Krystal Archive: A Year in Review 2010

January
- We rang in the new year with a marathon of Star Fox games
- A new display and processing system was implemented for the fanart, making it easier to navigate and more consistent
- The most requested feature of the fanart section was implemented: segregating traditional and rendered artwork into separate lists
- Ayano blew us away with her radically different Krystal cosplay at Further Confusion
- I released my last Krystal fanfilm A Girl Like That. I wouldn’t mention it, but it’s pretty popular.
February
- We found out more about Ayano this month
- I made a joke video featuring Krystal
- Krystal Archive Podcast 24 released
March
- The KA received several gift images this month, including three wallpapers and a fanart from Black_Berry
- Someone at Furry Fiesta dressed as a Team Fortress 2 spy and used a Krystal mask
April
- April brings April fools. Panther briefly takes over the KA
- Announced new version of the Saurian Translator (still not done with that!)
May
- The first widely known Brawl Krystal texture hack reaches the internet
June
- The first known Krystal papercraft hits the web
- E3 announces Star Fox 64 3D! No new Star Fox games or Krystal were mentioned. :(
- Krystal Archive Podcast 25 released
July
- Hakuhn finds a way to get dozens of Krystal audio clips from Star Fox Assault
- Mystery Krystal cosplayer appears again at Anthrocon
- Gadonstriom sent a highly accurate Adventures Krystal mesh
August
- Krystal Archive Podcast 26 released
- GammaRay256 gets original resolution ‘Foxy Ladies’ poster from the Great Fox, solving the mystery once and for all
- Adventures becomes playable via emulator, allowing for HD screenshots and videos
September
- Kailah Rattray cosplays as Krystal at an cosplay convention in Australia
October
- Another Krystal in Brawl mod appears
- Krazy Kacophony’s papercraft-based cosplay is posted
- Webcomic star Cindy is featured cosplaying Krystal. Two favorite characters in one, I had to post about it!

Yes, it appears as though the end of the year was a truly busy time. I’ll work on it.

I hope to get the time to update the site soon, I have a lot of material backed up waiting to be posted. Thank you all for understanding and being patient.

Barely Star Fox at E3

Yep. Star Fox (or rather an Arwing flying out of the 3DS screen) made only a passing appearance, as just “one of Nintendo’s franchises” that didn’t necessarily have a game in development.

Right now, Nintendo is broadcasting info on behind-the-scenes stuff. Miyamoto mentioned that the 3DS made Star Fox shooting aiming much easier. I think this probably counts as internal demos, not a game in progress, but we will see.

E3 On Horizon

Here it is, my pre-E3 post. I got some serious third degree BURNS on rumors of the past, so I am more than careful about saying what will and won’t be somewhere before it happens. As it stands now, there is NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER from any known credible source indicating Star Fox will be there. There are tons of “maybe’s” and lots of “they should’s,” but nothing solid. Nothing from reliable sources or off the record or whatever. No, this does not even count as a rumor, it’s wishful thinking.

So what will be there? As far as new stuff goes, we know Nintendo will talk 3DS and Zelda Wii (because they said they would). There will also probably be a lot more detail on Metroid: Other M and Pokemon White/Black. Other than that, I expect a few surprise games, of which maybe one or two will blow us away (Metroid: Other M, New Super Mario Bros. Wii), while the remainder are good, but not wet-your-pants exciting. That’s the formula they followed last year anyway.

In recent days, IGN has claimed that Retro’s secret project was a Donkey Kong revival. Donkey Kong has not had any non-spinoff games since 1999′s Donkey Kong 64 (unless you count the Mario vs Donkey Kong series), so everyone making the argument that “Star Fox must be announced this year because it’s time for the next game to come down the pipe,” have forgotten the huge gaps Nintendo has had for other series, like Metroid. I would say that given the above and the existence of a source even IGN trusts, it’s far more likely that Retro’s project is DK, not Star Fox as many of us had hoped. Either way, there’s no guarantee that Retro will show its project at all this year, so don’t get your hopes up.

This year, for the first time, Nintendo will be doing its own live streaming of the press conference. Just point your browser at e3.nintendo.com and wait for Tuesday morning at 9 AM Pacific. Afterward, I bet they will list all their announcements in webpage form on the same site. I will be monitoring the conference as well, and will do my best to get you the latest Star Fox and/or Krystal news if or when it happens.

My Undying Love

I, Panther Caroso, do hereby declare my undying love for the radiant beauty known only as Krystal. It gives me goose-bumps just thinking of her. Her eyes outshine the beauty of fine Venomian emeralds. Her wit is as quick and sharp as a dagger plunging into a target’s back. Can any woman in a thousand galaxies surpass her charm and grace? Could any lesser man resist her? Is she destined to remain in the cruel clutches of a pitiful weakling such as Fox McCloud? The answer to all these questions is a resounding ‘No! Never in an endless time!’

This website is now under my care. I have … dealt with the previous owner. Now, Krystal’s true intentions will be fully explored. Krystal can only be with me, Panther Caroso. It cannot be any other way!

Worry not, my dear, sweet Krystal. I swear by the redness of my rose, I will protect you! You have no need for anyone else.

Happy April Fool’s Day everyone! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Writing all that gushy Panther-speak made me feel dirty.

That Krystal is a Spy!

Krystal (and by Krystal I mean Blue Spy) made an appearance at Furry Fiesta 2010 (back in February 19-21). No-one seems to have been able to get a very good look at her(him), but isn’t that the point? The spy was played by Kewebox. He was wearing HighZenith’s Krystal Portrait.
