Star Fox Adventures: Krystal Video Editing Clips
- 201 MB H.264 MP4
- All of the scenes featuring Krystal in Adventures, including a couple additional item cutscenes and other odds and ends not otherwise available.
These videos are higher than normal quality H.264 MP4 videos that show only the parts of the game with Krystal in it (except for actual gameplay). These videos feature video that isn’t in the other videos on this site, but they also have no sound. The actual files are zipped for ease of download.
These videos are designed to be used in Krystal Fanfilms only. Please don’t download them unless you are seriously considering making one. They can be very draining on my server’s resources, and I may have to remove them temporarily (or move them) if they are downloaded too many times. Watch these videos if you just want video of Krystal.
The high quality, low file size video that H.264 MP4s provide are great for me, as the person hosting them. However, as I have learned from many emails to me, they can be a slight challenge to work with in your video projects. This is a quick guide on how to use these videos to their full potential.
The H.264 codec, part of the MP4 format, is relatively new, and is better than anything else I’ve ever worked with. Unfortunately, this also means that there are fewer compatible video editing applications at the current time.
If you have access to Quicktime Pro (Mac/Win), Final Cut Pro, or the latest version of Ulead Video Studio, you should be able to easily edit/convert the video with no additional steps. If you don’t have these, try your program first just in case. If you get no results, try converting your video to a more easily editable format, described below.
Converting the videos into more easily editable (larger) forms, is different for different operating systems, so I will talk about Mac OS X first, followed by Windows XP.
You’ve got it much easier than your PC counterparts. Simply download QTAmateur, which has all the converting features of Quicktime Pro, and is fast to boot. To convert a file, simply choose File > Batch Export and change the settings to whatever you want.
There are two good ways to do this: the free (possibly illegal) way and the nice way. The nice way is to simply buy Quicktime Pro, which is only $30, and convert them the way one usually would. The possibly illegal way is a bit more complicated. First, download Quicktime Alternative and install it. While installing or soon after, look for a screen containing a serial number for Quicktime Pro. Copy down this number. Uninstall Quicktime Alternative. Download and install Quicktime Player. Input the number you got earlier into the serial number area of Quicktime’s Preferences. You now have a semi-legal copy of Quicktime Pro. Now simply convert your videos the way you would with Quicktime.
I have tried (very hard) to use free H.264 decoders to convert the videos, and therefore find an easy (free) method for you guys. Unfortunately, while it seems that non-Quicktime video players like VLC can play these videos quite well, the code behind them simply can’t convert the videos correctly to another format. All of my attempts yeilded only partial results, usually producing a video with the first few seconds of video terribly deformed, only to inexplicably correct itself shortly afterward. Perhaps in the near future, a completely legal method will be found for Windows users. You can always contact me if you have some info about this you’d like to share.
I have been informed by Katherine Hempel that a program called Total Video Converter will allow you to convert the videos here, but will leave a small watermark.
After you’ve created your fanfilm, you should know about a program called SUPER (download at bottom of page) that can convert your video to nearly any format currently available. It is freeware in spite of looking like shareware. It can be somewhat confusing (both in terms of the design and the site where they host it), but you should be able to figure out how to use it well after a little experimentation.
I would love to host your works of Krystal Fanfilm here on the Archive’s Fanfilm page. Be sure you upload it to YouTube first, so you can get proper credit for your creations and to give me a place to link to. Of course, if you choose not to let me host your film, that’s fine too.
I hope you find these files very useful and I look forward to even more fanfilms in the future.
