Satoru Iwata Passed On
President of Nintendo and iconic figure in the entire gaming world, Mr. Satoru Iwata, has passed away at age 55. His worsening health over the past couple years worried us, but he seemed to be fine until 2 days ago when a bile duct growth suddenly took his life. He will be missed dearly. I can only pray for his family and friends while hoping he is at peace.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

I have been shocked for the past two days but I’m feeling a little more better each day. I will miss him and it is still hard to believe that he is gone. RIP Mr. Iwata.
he’ll be missed by all.
Please understand. Death is not the end. As long as those who care remember you, you live on forever in their memories and their hearts.
1959-2016
Satoru Iwata

1959-2015 not 2016. Hope this typo didn’t ruin the moment :/
Some of those tributes in Splatoon Miiverse are amazing and so very sad. I added my own but it’s no way near as good as others. It does make playing Splatoon very depressing though. Just so many lovely tributes everywhere.
I like to think he has gone on to the next world. Surely he is there bringing joy to that world as he did ours.
@AngelFoxDreamer – it doesn’t matter whether your art is good or not, hun. It’s the thought that matters and you did great even though I haven’t seen your art yet.
Yeah. God rest his soul. As long as we remember him, he won’t be forgotten. He left a lasting impact to not just Nintendo, but to the entire gaming industry.
Damn shame. Young for modern day. Hope Nintendo picks their new leader carefully as not to undo all that Iwata had done.
It is, very sad. Cancer sucks, it sucks a lot and I’ve known people whose lives have died as a result. He was an amazing person and may he rest in peace.
His passing has not gone unnoticed. He will be missed dearly. Satoru Iwata was not only a President of possibly the largest video game company of all time, but was also an amazing programmer who was largely responsible for the Kirby franchise seeing light, making sure that Earthbound was not cancelled, seeing to it personally that the Pokemon Gold and Silver versions had two regions and not one, the creation of Balloon Fight, and much much more. This man will go down as a legend in gaming history and truly left us too soon. With all my respect, thank you and rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.
I remember it well, I went to check his wiki and the info kept changing to: “He’s dead, Jim.”
This was the most shocking and saddest moment in my whole life. I couldn’t write it because I was to sad for it the last days.
R.I.P. Satoru Iwata (6th December 1959 – 11th July 2015) :'(
This is 2 sad 4 me
I couldn’t when I read the headlines saying he had passed. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I simply couldn’t believe that it had happened.
I’m one of those creative minds that can come up with things, but can’t create them. Seeing Iwata do what he did as a creator- he was my most looked up to role model next to Miyamoto. They made things, they thought of things, and they fulfilled their images.
I keep seeing this picture in my head that I truly wish I could create. Fox and the crew looking out to the distance, off the coast of Corneria, saluting the sunset with a faded image of Iwata smiling just above them in the sky. The words, “Rest in Peace” just below that.
…god he will be missed…
It’s far too soon to post a news article with jokes like this in it. Show a little respect.
My prayers and best wishes to Mr. Iwata’s Family.
@Reynard
I mean no disrespect. I phrased my lament in the spirit of his quirky and fun-loving style.
I’m pretty sure someone may of said this, but for future reference, try not to write these things this way. It comes off as inconsiderate, even if it was a joke.
Iwata was a great man he’ll be missed.
