Star Fox: Event Horizon Fangame
I mentioned this one on the podcast briefly. UndyingNephalim is making an epic Star Fox fangame, continuing the legacy of the now cancelled Star Fox: Shadows of Lylat. The game dev trio is competed with its writer (JediAnnSolo) and music composer (Morphiul). UndyingNephalim has a couple existing games under his belt (Hyrule: Total War, Antibody, a Star Fox RTS), and the initial videos show great promise.
Along with over a dozen playable characters, there are two versions of Krystal in this game, one from her time in the Cornerian army, and the other as a member of Star Fox. Pivotal to the story is Falyf, a mysterious 'other survivor' of Cerinia, Krystal's doomed homeworld. This new blue vixen pilots an unusual Krazoa-like mech.
There's already tons of videos and a website for this project. Check it out!

It looks okay. Personally I think the characters look move like the Lambchop sock puppet, and that the voice acting is lacking, but for a fan made game, it seems to have a leg up on the other ventures out there.
is pretty good, but the character model look like they been scale in some way and the ones that look similar to star fox assault is also look scale up and/or retextured. but the other model we’ll haven’t seen out of the cock pit seems nice.
Worry not! According to the video description, “Everything right now is considered temporary, even the voices,” which explains the somewhat unfinished look of the video. Probably just meant to let people know this exists and that they’ve got the capability to actually make something, unlike many fan projects that start and promptly flatline.
hope fully this game gets put out to full quality, though I do have a question how and where would we get and play this?
@adam/znex
It would be for PC (and possibly Mac).
@bbarton
Yes, this is the ‘Hype Trailer’, which as I said, shows enough to show that he can make what he says he can make, but without actually showing the final thing. He’s already got multiple playable levels (see the videos). Quality will go up, but that’s the last thing you do on a game project. First, you make sure the basics are in place.
My only complaints are the lipsynching (mouth animation) and the fact that it’s 4:3. Couldn’t they make a 16:9 trailer?
@Dogman15
They probably didn’t put all their resources into this video because it’s purpose was sort of a proof of concept, and putting in that aspect ratio might’ve cut down on render time. And the lack of detailed lip syncing (animation is a pretty tedious process, and for it to be perfect it can often take 20 hours of labor to make a fully presentable 20 second scene) might’ve allowed them to get the word out quicker, which was likely their primary concern.
@bbarton. I’ve messed around with lipsyncing when I’ve done 3D renders. It’s not that difficult anymore. There’s plugins for most programs that will set up the animation automatically. The difficult part, I assume would be setting up the skeletal parameters on the model to be compatible with the plugin. After that though, the computer does most of the work.
@the Falcon
If you could link me to a free lip sync plugin for Maya 2010 that doesn’t destroy my limited bank like Voice-O-Matic would that would be wonderful.
@undyingnephalim Sorry, bud. I wouldn’t know of one. I had an old copy of Daz Studio 3. It’s hard to find now that the 4th is out, but if you can find it, by all means get it.
Of course, one has to hate on the animation currently in place. Its choppy, slow, floaty, and odd feeling. Then again its a trio making this. That said, the gameplay is surprising. It controls like a ship and looks pretty damn good. Props to the team for making a cool looking game
@UndyingNephalim
if you have the steam client I think that the SDK source might be able to help you since it is free and has virtually every thing you would need, though im not sure if its an all porpose program.
@Mr.Krystal
not quite what I ment, I’m assuming it would be some sort of drop box thing or something that they would put on their home site but to be honest I don’t really know right now. I’m sure you might out it put when its done wouldn’t you?
@UndyingNephalim
I just joined the forum. 68fordfalcon. Yeah, BTW, I don’t use “the Falcon” moniker because of Falco, but because my dad used to own a 1968 Ford Falcon.
@adam/znex
He has his own site for the game. If he wants me to mirror it here, I will, but we’re a long way from that point right now.
