Smash DLC Confirmed: Mewtwo Revealed
It looks like the wizards at Nintendo are going to be doing DLC for Smash after all, for both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash Bros! You know what that means!
Mewtwo won't be available until next year, which is explained by reaffirming that new characters take a long time to make. Be sure to watch the rest of the video too, it's got tons of awesome stuff!
One last thing, the Lylat Cruise stage that originally appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be re-appearing here in the Wii U version, which will no-doubt contain the secret Star Fox taunts.

It’s curious that, when they showed the conversation for Orbital Gate, Krystal wasn’t shown. Must be voice actress hunting at this time, perhaps. Her trophy is in the game, so it would be weird not to have in there. In a Assault stage, no less.
@Xen: In the new Star Fox stage, they showed Fox, Slippy, Falco, and Peppy talking. Krystal probably has new lines, too, but they just didn’t show her in that brief segment. Also, it sounds like Slippy and Peppy might have new voice actors, or at the very least, Slippy isn’t voiced by Mike McAuliffe. Maybe they brought Lyssa Browne back. It seems like Smash 4 is going with a “Star Fox 64” flavor (at least in terms of voice actors), rather than the Star Fox: Assault flavor that Brawl had.
@Dogman15: who knows, maybe Nintendo does wants to go back to its original star fox 64 roots, maybe they want to forget about adventures, assault, and command all together.
One thing I’ve learned is that Nintendo is a truly unpredictable creature that will do whatever the hell it wants.
@guitarplayer747 I don’t think that’s the case. After all, as I said before, Krystal has already established herself as a character in the series and has appeared in the same amount of games as Wolf has. I don’t think that Miyamoto and everyone else at Nintendo would kill Krystal off for dumb reasons. Besides, if they wanted to get rid of her, they could have done it a long time ago. But they haven’t and I doubt that they would do it. Because Miyamoto and every one else at the company are aware that there is a fanbase towards her who do like her as a character. However, there are those who hate her for stupid reasons like “She can’t be in Smash 4 because she’ll be a Fox clone.” What those people don’t seem to realize that they need to think outside the box here. In fact, I already figured out what her moveset would be with the staff she has. Anyone who has played Adventures would make sense to what I’m talking about. Yes, even though Fox uses her staff throughout the entire game, that staff originally belonged to her and every ability that Fox used in the game, you can bet that she knows how to use.
That’s why I have a feeling that Mewtwo isn’t going to be the only DLC character at all and hopefully Nintendo will clarify more on it. Because it would be stupid that he would be available to those who own the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash 4. Hopefully down the road, they speak in better detail that if one person doesn’t have for instance the 3DS but own the Wii U version, at least give the player the chance to download Mewtwo and any other future DLC character(whether it is veteran or newcomer) and pay for it just to be fair for the player. Which is why I’m hoping that for DLC we get other fighters like Wolf, Krystal, Lucas, Dixie Kong(or King K. Rool). Because these are characters that fans have been requesting heavily for such a long period of time. In fact, to show some support for these characters, here’s the link for it http://www.ranker.com/list/super-smash-bros-4-dlc-or-wii-u-transfer-characters/smashsmash . As for Krystal, here’s the petition for it https://www.change.org/p/masahiro-sakurai-add-krystal-as-a-playable-character-in-super-smash-bros-for-the-wiiu-3ds#news .
It’s funny. Usually the representation of a franchise in a Smash game borrows most heavily from the last major game released in that franchise. So it sort of makes sense that most of the Star Fox related stuff would come from the remake. Hence why in the 3DS Smash, the trophies of the original team are in their 64 3DS models. It would make sense to make a stage based off that game, at least for the 3DS version. But they didn’t do that.
The major Star Fox stage in this game is Orbital Gate, of all places. From Assault. Sure, it was the last console release from a Star Fox game, and the Wii U version stages are mostly from console games…but still, it’s an odd choice.
Weird.
Maybe they didn’t show her for Krystal DLC hype?
Oh god! The voices for ALL the star fox crew are horrid! No effort, cheesy execution (especially Fox and Slippy), and bad voices. They should have stuck with the Assault actors. Nonetheless I’m happy Star Fox is getting a lot of attention in terms of stages.
well then i never thought id see them ever put out a DLC befor, but i guess theres a first time for every thing.
im also pretty sure that how they present her well greatly impact how she will turn out for this.
At this point I really don’t care about new super smash bros. I am already burned out of it. give me some star fox DLC and ill get back into it. However I am eagerly waiting for the new star fox game. I’m just curiously on what Miyamoto is going to do with the star fox series in terms of game play and story. My question for him is that will it go back to its 64 roots? In my opinion It shouldn’t. 64 is alright but it is too short and simple in terms of story and game play. My vision is to have a more broad and longer story, enhanced “Assault” game mechanics, new characters,and awesome online multilayer.
As long as it’s not like Star Fox Command….so there is slight hope with DLC to see that special blue vixen, but I ain’t holding my breath.
I’m happy that Star Fox is getting a lot of attention since E3. Fox won the tournament in #1 Fan Fave in SSB, new SF game in 2015, and DLCs coming! I hope Krystal comes soon and the both versions will have an update coming soon. Looking forward to it and the only draw back is the SF64 voice! Jim Walker sounded hotter than the other guy anyway.
@All
You guys had a lot of things to say.
I took another listen to the Star Fox cameo voices. My best guess is it’s the SF64 voice actors, but obviously their voices have changed a bit since then. That or they picked people who sounded more like the SF64 people. I actually approve of this. Star Fox dialog has always been a little cheesy (Andross won’t have his way with me!), but that’s part of the charm. It’s designed after retro puppet-based sci-fi shows after all.
Interesting, there has been literally no sightings of Krystal OR Wolf throughout the many months and leading up to the release. It could be they’re avoiding mentioning anything about them because of DLC plans. But it could also be because they know it’s a sore spot for the fans. I have my theory, but I’m going to keep that to myself for the moment.
It’s funny, because Wolf indeed hasn’t been shown, Mr. Krystal.
I can’t help but feel that Sakurai at least knows that Wolf and Krystal are wanted. I’ve heard somewhere that Krystal’s was one of the more wanted characters for Brawl. But with all things with Sakurai…you never know.
@Xen
She was the most voted for female character in Brawl’s polls sometime during development, and the second most voted for character behind Sonic.
My theory/hope is that they haven’t mentioned either Wolf or Krystal for a legitimate reason. That reason happens to be that StarFox Wii U is coming out in 2015 and that they would be an excellent promotional DLC for that game that will need the promotional boost. From a marketing perspective that would make the most sense. After all, look at the polls, right now Wolf is #4 and Krystal #5.
@Santiago
And that poll has been oddly prophetic, what with Mewtwo being announced. And I know it’s been said before, but surely Mewtwo isn’t the only character they are releasing next spring. With all that time…and to think that we might have more news about Star Fox Wii U by that time…it does make me hope.
Also about the poll: Yay! Isaac is number two on the poll! Golden Sun go!
Oh great… I what im hearing from you guess is right then when they do release games that have these kinds of wanted character’s than it could be one of those marketing ploy’s for all their other games to sold. That to me seems like its a pretty dark path to take don’t you think.
Well if it matters, a new “leak” kind of surfaced. It’s a video of a guy (tester) who apparently has the prototype Mewtwo and 2 other DLC characters (Wolf and Waddle Dee). Take it with a grain of salt because the images for the characters are low quality and he doesn’t select them to hear the announcer voice.
@kevin
I had a look at the video. Looks like a fake to me.
