Star Fox Adventures Director Interview
YouTuber Poogles managed to get into contact with Lee Schuneman, the director of Star Fox Adventures and Dinosaur Planet before that. In the video, Poogles starts by setting the context in which the game was announced, then lets Lee explain in detail the thought processes that led them to turn Dinosaur Planet into Star Fox Adventures.
One of the most interesting aspects of the interview is how some of the early renders of the game implied much more involvement of other members of the Star Fox team like Slippy and Peppy. We already knew that Krystal would have been more involved too. But due to time constraints and not wanting to rework everything they had done in Dinosaur Planet, Fox ended up with the major role.
Humorously, Poogles forgot to ask about why Krystal was redesigned the way she was in Adventures. Fortunately, we have the answer to that one.
It has been known for a while that the Dinosaur Planet to Star Fox Adventures transition was not Nintendo forcing ideas onto Rareware, but an agreed upon collaboration between two giants. Good to see that reemphasized in the face of the popular narratives.
The video also shares some never-before-seen renders and animations from the development process. Some of these feature Krystal. I'm going to reach out to Poogles to see if I can access them.
Lastly, Poogles said that the full interview contained more insights into the game, but he had to cut some of it for the sake of time. If he gets a big enough response in the comments, he might post the full, unedited interview. That's your cue! GO TO THE COMMENTS AND ASK FOR THE FULL INTERVIEW!
Thanks to Lily for the heads up!

No problem Mr. K and thanks for the shout out! This is a very exciting video for us Krystal and Star Fox fans! :D
Thank you for the shout out! I’m just a small content creator trying to make big in journalism; trying to talk to creators in this great industry. Mine and Lee’s conversation went close to an hour in which we bull****ed around but he does talk about HIS inspirations for how the game (visually) took shape that I find super fun. Glad to hear the Starfox community eating this up!
very cool info.
