Star Fox Metroid Crossover Retro Rumor
Lots of rumors going around the net, now that E3 is only three weeks away (June 5-7, 2012). Retro Studios has been working on something at least since they helped with the tracks in Mario Kart 7. A rumor from over a year ago claimed that they were working on a project everyone wanted them to do. This drove a lot of speculation. Now, the same site that had that rumor now has another. According to this very detailed rumor, Retro Studios has been working on a game that stars both Samus and Fox McCloud in what is probably the first real story-related crossover by Nintendo and its IPs (not counting Mario & Sonic games, the Smash Bros. Series, and the occasional cameo appearances all over the place).
The details:
- Some high-speed warp causes Fox's Arwing to collide with Samus's Jumpship
- Samus crash lands, loses all her upgrades (seriously, get some super glue, Samus!), and must explore the planet
- Fox remains in space and proceeds to have numerous space-based battles
- Eventually the pair meet up, Fox is controlled third-person style, will be more ninja like in movement style
- Andross is using Metroids on himself and army somehow
- The working title is: "Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga"
Personally, I don't think I'm alone in thinking this sounds like it came straight out of FanFiction.net. While Metroid and Star Fox are probably the most universe-compatible of Nintendo's series, I don't see it happening. Then again, popular knowledge also said that Mario and Sonic would never be in a game together, and that non-Nintendo characters would never be in a Smash Bros. game. Crazier things have happened. As for Retro Studios and Star Fox, I think it's easily possible and even likely that Retro Studios is working on Star Fox, regardless of this rumor. They've proven themselves with more than one of Nintendo's IPs in the past.

I honestly think this is REAL!!!! I just remembered reading a while back…. A quote from retro saying “…maybe it’s time for retro to pull off a barrel roll of a different type” (not exactly what they said, a little more than this) after reading that and heating of the rumor… I have no doubts
@ Kevin
I agree!
@ Mr. Krystal
This is like the best idea ever!! I do not care if this is crossover or not, as long as there’s a Star Fox game coming for WiiU (Or new name console coming up).
Maybe adding Metroid stuff to a Star Fox game will get more people to buy it, since Metroid seems to be more popular.
I don’t think it’s popularity… Both games REALLY need a resurrection… More people would buy it probably because it’s both games brand new in one single game… After all star fox is the one in need of a new game (metroid got one for the wii)
April Fool’s Day was last month. I’m hoping for a new Star Fox announcement at E3, but this is the last thing I was expecting.
I agree with Kevin…. They did hint to a new game using a line from star fox… I actually have no doubts except for one thing…. A voice for samus (she no have one -_- besides grunts and screams lol)
A crossover??? Hm…. Well…. I guess that’s c
DAMN IPOD!!!! as I was saying…. I guess that’s cool… I found the website that had the interview quote Kevin is talking about… I do believe there is a new star fox game but a little bit doubting the crossover
Hello… I’m new here… I saw this post and thought I should add that… A while back I was on mynintendonews.com and I saw a post about this…. Of course Nintendo had no comment BUT a commenter noted that another site interviewed an ex-employee of rare… He told the site that even though he was an employee, he wasn’t even sure about it but he said that they might abandon this idea and make the two games separate… THIS IS ALL BY A COMMENTER AND MAY NOT BE TRUE (after all the guy that runs the website eventually trolls his readers with ridiculous posts)
Tbh I think this idea sounds really stupid, why can’t they just make a proper main console game again like they did with assault and adventures where its souly star fox not some weird crossover. The whole idea of this game sounds like a mistake to me, plus i bet nowing star fox luck the game they’ll be designing is a pure metroidprime game cos there hasn’t been one out in like 2 or 3 years which would suck so much cos i really want a new proper star fox game to come out!!!
I have some news… I just read that the crossover will NOT happen :(… I was actually excited for this game… Oh well
Alot of people didn’t like the idea cause they thought the two would “interact”… U had the ability to play either story so it’s practically 2 games only on one disc (if u just did samus u would be alone the whole time until u meet fox… Same with foxs side) too bad it’s not happening
I agree with Head Honcho on this topic. To cross over Metroid Prime and Star Fox would cause conflict for the fans that are truly the strength behind Nintendo being top dog in the 1990’s. For those fans like me who have stuck with Star Fox all the way through right on. Hands down Star Fox and Metroid Prime are the top four games Nintendo has ever produced, (Mario and the Legend of Zelda are the top two respectively.) In order for these two games to be revitalized they must be made separately.Whoever will be designing the newest Star Fox game (Retro Studios) will have to rethink about redesigning the space/air combat in the Arwings, If you are battling in space on Campaign allow the player the ability to fly freely in space around a planet to engage enemy ships, protect Cornerian fleets. Campaign objectives would make the game more revolutionary or unique than in the past. Also why not creat a Co-operative Campaign where you and a friend can select one of the Star Fox pilots and play through the campaign. (Still as a third person shooter.) See from the perspectives of all characters. For the multiplayer mode to allow the person to crouch or crawl behind trees when battling would truly add to the multiplayer action.(With Star Fox Assualt you could not crouch. Yeah everyone who has played the game knows what I am talking about,) On Campaign I believe that a new villian will add to the Star Fox story/time line. Relating this new villian to Krystal being the survivor of her doomed planet would cause an amazing plot twist for the future series of games to come. Since Star Fox Adventures they briefly talk about how Krystal was the only survivor of her planet. Why not touch up on that because I am sure that I am not the only Star Fox fan who wants to know how Krystal joined the Star Fox team and her past. Star Fox RULES!!!!
I read on ign that about 3 of their sources have said that super smash bros, star fox, AND f-zero will be at e3…. WE MAY FINALLY HAVE A NEW STAR FOX AMD F-ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!
