Star Fox Zero Delayed to Q1 2016
Wow. I'm actually surprised. I had originally thought Nintendo had a very accelerated development period for Star Fox Zero, but it seemed like they had everything under control. Technically, I guess that's still correct, but Nintendo has decided to voluntarily delay the game to drastically improve the control scheme and add more polish to the cutscenes. This is going to make Nintendo's tough holiday season even tougher, because they delayed their biggest release in their most financially important season. These changes must be really worth it.
Here's the official announcement.
A Message from Mr. Miyamoto Regarding Star Fox Zero
I made a big decision last week.
We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes. While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.
To the people looking forward to the launch of the game this holiday season, I am very sorry. Star Fox Zero is going to bring new game play and experiences that take it far beyond the framework established by Star Fox 64. All the members of the development team are doing our best so that the final product will not betray your expectations. And the game will not be delayed for a very long time – we’re aiming to launch the game in Q1 2016. Please stay tuned for further announcements.
So, that's a small disappointment. On a funny note, there's a huge number of comments on the Facebook post requesting Nintendo add Krystal to the game.

Say WOT?!?! Okay… Let’s hope these changes are good!!!
My guess is that they really want this game to be a major improvement in comparison to the other Star Fox Games. Either way, I’m not that disappointed by this.
I am torn up over it. The game won’t be releasing around my Birthday but the potential reasons for the delay has me excited. I am hoping one is for Krystal. She appears to be getting a lot of fan support so I don’t think Nintendo would ignore that. Although I won’t expect her to be in the main game but as a choice for multiplayer modes and maybe with any luck support for her Amiibo if she gets added to Smash bros. We will have to wait and see.
Are you kidding me. I mean, not only the delay, but also the fact they decided to do another pointless N64 title game. Why isn’t Nintendo doing a proper sequel to Assault with the Assault gameplay? I mean come on people, you can’t expect EVERY GAME to be like the N64 game. Seriously, move on and try Assault and Adventures, they’re both great games than the N64 game.
First people were upset zero wasn’t an assault sequal (when command already exists) now people are upset zero is delayed. Hypocrisy I say.
@earth being
Command is a terrible game and it has 9 endings and 7 endings are stupid or just hateful. I only like “Goodbye Fox” and “Krystal and Lucy.” Plus Command is non canon.
@StarDog Smasher
About command. There is a lot of stuff that throws me off about it (katt’s unrecognizable redesign, time limit, multiple endings, etc.) but just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean those who do have to change their opinions. For the record there are some good endings. One of them is when Fox and Krystal have a child named Marcus. He becomes the new star fox leader after that. I think command went off of replay value. Meaning they chose the worst possible ending for the default ending so people are inclined to play more if they want a better ending.
@StarDog Smasher
As much as you may hate it, Command *IS* the sequel to Assault.
@earth being
As much as you may hate it, Command *IS* canon.
@Mr. Krystal
I don’t hate it anymore, but your right. Command itself is canon, but the endings really aren’t due to nobody officially saying which ending(s) happen to be correct. Just because I may not like command a whole lot doesn’t mean I hate it, nor does it mean people who do like it have to change their opinions. Just another misunderstanding :)
Star Fox Zero originally had a firm release date for North America and Europe, suggesting the game is very likely largely complete, and sliding the release window only a few months is not enough a time-frame to both further polish the game and implement an “out-of-place” character in a game already so late in development.
Miyamoto may be already long aware of the fans wanting to see Krystal back, but it is wishful thinking to believe there is a chance she could be included, especially in a game which is supposedly a love letter to the classic Star Fox 64, a pre-Krystal era game.
@earth being
The endings are all canon, in the sense that they are official. Star Fox officially has 9 different endings on purpose. There is no ‘real’ ending, unfortunately.
@Hope(N Forever)
Mr. Miyamoto himself said it was mostly complete (or at least would be releasable at the original date). Given what I’ve seen of the demos, that seems completely reasonable. It looked very complete even back at E3. However, polish is not some on or off thing. The more polish you have, the better. They might be planning to add a little or a lot. Adding another character who isn’t, you know, the main character, wouldn’t take THAT long. But I agree with you that I doubt that’s what they wish to do. I think they are far more interested in whatever this “unprecedented discovery” is that involves the two-screen controls system.
While I realize there is almost zero chance of it actually happening, I would LOVE if they added an all-girls mode where you play through the game as Krystal, with Katt, Lucy, and Amanda as your wingmates (maybe cut out the cutscenes and just have in-game banter between the four of them).
I’m not surprised at Starfox Zero being delayed. This will give Miyamoto even more time to polish the game and in the end, it will look even better. Also, it will give him more time to make an actual Amiibo lineup based off on Zero.
As for Smash 4, even with Zero delayed, I don’t think that it’s going to Hurt Wolf and Krystal’s chances to be in Smash 4 ‘ s DLC. This will help out a lot more. ^^
I’m just happy to see more work is going to be put into zero =D.
Just as well. Gives me more time to preorder is.
I wouldn’t be surprised it got delay and making it for the nx with Zelda wii u.
If them having more time means making the game better and possibly adding Krystal, then I’m all for it. Shout out to Sweeto for that second comment.
Commands canoncity is nebulous, considering that interview with Cuthbert pointed out that none of the endings is definitive, which means the events of game are pretty much up to player choice. There is no “official” timeline of what happens in Command. Heck, Cuthbert even said that should a game be made after Command, it would ignore all the endings entirely. I take that to mean that none of events of Command are really meant to be taken as official, or even canon.
On a personal level, I just disregard the game completely.
I’m very curious about this “unprecedented discovery” they made. I’m even more curious about if they made the decision to delay to make the game itself look better in terms of actual texture detail. A lot of people were making a point; the textures in game, albeit weren’t at the level of SF 64 (in terms of polygon jaggedness), looked very low quality and weren’t appealing to look at.
Nonetheless I’m beyond excited for this game and will happily wait a little longer.
I can wait a bit longer for this game and I can understand why they would want to delay the game as 4th quarter 2015 is going to be a very busy time for game releases (Example Fallout 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles X just to name two AAA titles) and something like Starfox Zero chances are would not do well.
Also I should mention that a good example of a Starfox game that got extra attention development wise was the JPN version of Assault if you look at the cutscene comparison between the NA and JPN releases you can see what extra dev time can do for a game and they also got a extra mini game that was not in the NA release.
As for the new Zelda game I am half way expecting them to pull what they did with the GC/Wii version Twilight Princess which was release it for the Wii first and then do a limited quantity run with the GC version so I am expecting a announcement that the game will be a launch title for the NX and a little bit later a limited print run on the Wii U.
again WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
OK I’m done. Krystal for starfox zero easter egg or coop mode exclusive.
Command is an assult sequal and at the same the warst starfox game ever I can do with the weding ending or the team back together ending everything else SCRAP PUT BACK ON THE START AGAIN PILE SEIRESLY, Miyomoto set Q games strait.
Not sure I should but I feel there is a lot of negativity towards Command. It is the worst Star Fox game but I also feel the game has a few good aspects that go ignored. In Command’s story mode you could play as everyone and no one was useless. Loved how everyone had different arwing types which made them feel unique to play as. The strategy elements were interesting and made you feel like a real leader of the team. The online 1v1 multiplayer was fun. Some of the endings gave hope for more interesting developments for later games as well as a larger Star Fox team. Just unfortunate they messed up so much stuff with the game so that anything even slightly good will be ignored and forgotten.
I am hopeful for that they will do to the game during the delay. The graphics not too fussed about. If the game is a lot of fun can ignore that but a missing main character is a little harder to. I don’t expect anything too major though. I suspect it will be at least for an easier off-TV mode of play.
@NJ Fox
Well you’re in luck, the wedding ending has been given special treatment by me on my channel for a new Star Fox sequel game. Check out my channel, it’s there along with other ideas.
