Watch Today’s Treehouse Livestream with Abdallah
Since I won't be able to watch the Nintendo livestream when it's happening, why not watch it with Abdallah? He will be doing live viewing and reactions to the animated short "Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins!". He will then be reacting to the Treehouse livestream afterwards. Head over to the video if you want some people to chat with as you watch.
curse UK time zones I can’t see it till tomarrow.
@N J FOX
You could stay up for a couple more hours, surely?
This is the thing I’m most excited about!
Super pumped for this. At first I thought, dang I got classes, but i get out an hour before so yay… but now i got a meeting with the gaming clubs officers exactly when the video starts D= </3
wow they mentioned Sauria, that’s surprising
@Falemirous That, and if you look at the whiteboard in the background during the Treehouse Presentation, you can see a drawing of Krystal. So my guess (and sincerest hope) is that Nintendo has not forgotten about or written off Krystal just yet.
Didn’t get to watch the tree house part, just got home and loved this shot anime. So if this game is 10 days after leaving Sauria, I do wonder where Krystal fits into all of this. Not saying at all that I expect her to be somewhere in the game at all, but if this is after Adventures, doesn’t that mean Star Fox Zero is in between the events of Adventures and Assault… hmmm.
Either way, hope Nintendo posts that tree house part next soon. =]. For now, I’m gonna re-watch and pause parts of this and see if I can find Miyu or Fay somewhere in here. I just feel like they would put them in with the civilians somewhere =].
I doubt it takes place after the events of Adventures. Remember, in the short film, Fox said that his father died five years earlier. The events of Adventures take place 8 years after that of 64 (the time period Zero is supposed to take place in).
For all intents and purposes, they had never heard of Sauria before the events of Adventures. Ergo, unless there is something story-wise in the game that we haven’t learned yet, it’s possible that this is a continuity error.
But if it’s not, and the fact that somebody drew a picture of Krystal on the whiteboard during the Treehouse Presentation, as well as PlatinumGames expressing interest in including her in a sequel if they ever get to make one, it furthers my belief that Nintendo has not entirely abandoned everyone’s favorite blue vixen just yet.
But, but astrofan1993…
Literally… one sec let me check when.
Alright, go to 2:40 and the video and listen to Slippy, they only left Sauria 10 days ago! :D
Again, it could be a continuity error on the part of the writers. As a writer myself, I can say without a doubt that every writer has made at least one continuity error or retcon throughout their careers.
But where it stands, based on what little knowledge we have about the events of this game, is that this game takes place within the same timeframe as that of Star Fox/Star Fox 64, or eight years before the events of Adventures.
If James McCloud died five years before the events of Zero, then that would mean his death was 13 years before the events of Adventures. And the Lylat Wars, which ended at the end of 64, are still raging on by the events of Zero.
Besides, if Andross was apparently killed at the end of Adventures, how would he have revived himself when the Krazoa Spirits left him? And, if Krystal joined Star Fox at the end of Adventures, why isn’t she with the team in Zero?
Ergo, it is logical to assume that if Zero is set in the same timeframe as that of 64, then it would still take place eight years before Adventures, and Krystal would be about 11 years old instead of the 19 year-old vixen we see in Adventures.
Ultimately, whether Slippy’s mention of Sauria is a slip-up (pun not intended) on the part of the writers, a reference to Adventures, or an indication that this game takes place after the events of Adventures remains to be seen.
Trust me, I’m not trying to rain on the parade here. If Slippy’s mention of Sauria and the drawing of Krystal on the whiteboard during the presentation have any meaning, then it’s entirely possible that Krystal is still part of Star Fox canon.
We’ll know soon enough in two days when the embargo is lifted.
yea i saw that too before i disconnected, it’s kinda hilarious and sad that it’s off to the side and somewhat poorly drawn. but the tiera definitely had to confirm that she’s not forgotten by pretty much anyone. betting on the success of this game means we’ll see her eventually again.
confirm it was her
Repost from what I said in the Star Fox reddit:
From an intro Star Fox Adventures cutscene:
General Pepper: “You are approaching Dinosaur Planet, an ancient world on the edge of the Lylat system.”
Sauria is technically part of Lylat, but it’s far away, not usually included among the battleground planets. Interesting to note that in Star Fox Assault, Corneria was conquered in the time that Star Fox was assisting Tricky on Sauria (which fits with the planet being a 10-day’s flight away), which is why General Pepper is infected by Aparoids before the Star Fox team even knows about the initial attack.
From the way General Pepper talks, Corneria has contact with the citizens of Sauria, but only just barely. Sauria (at this time at least) was a relatively independent planet in Lylat. The Star Fox team themselves don’t indicate that they know anything about the planet until the mission in Star Fox Adventures.
Thus, though it sounds like they might be retconning a huge portion of a game series (something Nintendo doesn’t do to my knowledge), what they say in “Star Fox Zero – The Battle Begins” is completely consistent with Star Fox Adventures’ storyline. It would just add the fact that the Star Fox team at least knew of the planet Sauria (and had visited) before the Adventures mission.
I wouldn’t say it’s completely consistent. Remember, as I said, in the animated short, Fox said his father died five years earlier. Canonically, the events of Star Fox Adventures take place eight years after the events of Star Fox 64. Ergo, if the events of Adventures take place eight years after the events of 64 (of which Star Fox Zero supposedly is a reimagining of), then technically, James McCloud would have been deceased for 13 years, not five.
It may be possible that they visited Sauria before the events of Adventures, but why would they have any reason to? I don’t really see Sauria as a tourist destination. Mostly, I see this as either a retcon, a continuity error, or just a slip-up on the part of the script writers. But we’ll see soon enough whether the reference to Sauria (as well as Krystal’s face on the whiteboard) means anything concerning our favorite blue vixen.
We already know from numerous interviews and storyline points that Star Fox Zero takes place DURING the Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64). This is a reimagining of the game (not a prequel or sequel).
According to the timeline ( http://starfox.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_Lylat_System_history ) and to the intro of Star Fox 64 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyWFwbPYQTs ), it goes like this:
0 – General Pepper exiles Andross
5 years later – James, Peppy, and Pigma go investigate, James is killed when Pigma betrays them
“A few years have passed.” – The events of Star Fox 64 where Fox is called on to save the Lylat system.
“A few years” fits fine with 5 years that Fox mentions explicitly in the Star Fox Zero intro.
There is no evidence (that I know of) that prove the Star Fox team never knew about or visited Sauria prior to the events of Adventures. You are assuming that the Star Fox team hadn’t, and then building on top of that assumption. I believe your assumption is incorrect. You will need to find proof that the Star Fox team didn’t know about the planet. As it is, we know General Pepper at the very least knew about the planet prior to the events of Adventures. Whether it personally makes sense to you or not that they visited doesn’t matter. What matters is fitting the actual data we have to the new game and seeing what works and what doesn’t.
