E3 Announcements
Wow guys. We knew Nintendo was going to announce a bunch of things, but they did a bit more than I expected. Two Metroid games, tons of new Mario Odyssey mechanics, a new Kirby game, confirmed Switch main-line Pokémon game, Fire Emblem Warriors, a new Yoshi game, the launch date for the summer Zelda DLC (called it), and even a portable Rocket League port for Switch. Nintendo really gave a lot of fans what they wanted, including me.
Tomorrow will continue the Treehouse live segments. I plan to watch those as well, but I won't be in the chatroom. Response to the idea of a Discord chatroom was positive. I will have to look more into that in the coming weeks.
I'm told that the Star Fox and Krystal campaigning on social media was somewhat successful. At least, it was for a time. Somehow, many of the comments have since gotten marked as spam and removed. I sincerely hope none of you were actually spamming.
Here's the Nintendo Spotlight Presentation if you missed it. You can also watch the entire day's coverage, over 8 hours of video!
As a side note, if you want to look at all the official artwork, at full resolution, they have been posted by GoNintendo.
Comments
Might be because a lot are just posting they want a new Star Fox and Krystal. Number of commenter’s believe it is bots. Noticed a few hoping Nintendo ignore the comments because it is done by bots or furries. So if you are going to comment also say what you liked about the Digital Event.
I was just browsing through the Smashboards thread and apparently the comments have not been removed but they are no longer at the top even though they had more upvotes than some of the current top comments.
As far as I’m concerned none of those comments could be considered as spam since they all started by referring to the actual announcements (what they liked, for instance) and then showing their desire to see a new SF game including Krystal. Last time I checked there were also no double or even multiple comments from the same account. It was one comment per account while they upvoted each other. The only exception was Sweeto himself. He commented via his main channel as well as his toons channel. Both of his comments were at the top. However, it is possible that the others had multiple accounts as well.
I think if none of these comments had included the words ‘Assault’ or ‘Krystal’ and instead just Star Fox in general, people wouldn’t have started to complain about it…
Just checked the comment section again. Lots of new comments but unfortunately, they’ll fall into the spam category for sure. This time they didn’t refer to anything shown in the video at all. Sweeto even reposted a couple of times, probably because he thought his earlier comments were removed.
Reading the replies to the comments breaks my heart. How did it come to this? I just don’t get it. Can someone explain to me why there is so much hate going on? It is not just criticism, it’s pure HATE for this character, especially in the USA. And I’m not just talking about the comments to this video. As soon as you come out as a Krystal fan you’re called a furry, sexist, weirdo and whatnot. Not to mention their latest insult: Bot!
I would rather expect something like that to happen here in Germany, but that’s not the case. Sure, there are Krystal haters here as well but only a tiny fraction compared to the people that like or at least tolerate her. I know we’re only talking about the people that actually come out online to express their opinion. There is still a silent majority and I wonder what they actually think.
I don’t know how you guys feel about this but for me it was pretty hard not to lose my temper and strike back, but then I thought: These people aren’t even worth it…
all e3 from nintendo, sony and mircosoft was meh. glad nintendo annouce metroid prime 4, now i need to beat the 1st 3 before the 4th one comes out.
@ RareWare#1Fan I beat all the metroid prime games so if you need any tips let me know.
Krystal is thought of as ruining the franchise, as every game since Adventures failed to pull in the sales numbers 64 did, so she’s scapegoated.
And really, mass commenting the Spotlight video comes across as a bad idea. We only establish ourselves a nuisance–it’s all made worse with Zero’s lackluster sales.
I do hope Krys and this franchise come back, but after all this mediocre response, she mismanagement admittably, plus fan response, I’m worried the franchise is back in the deep freeze.
@Xengo
It is still pretty lame to blame one particular character for the drop of sales. If anyone, these so-called fans have to blame themselves as they apparently didn’t buy it, thus making the numbers drop.
SF will continue, though. Miyamoto pretty much confirmed it not so long ago by saying he wished Fox was more popular as a character and he wants to put more effort into that.
Some of the negative reactions on youtube is like “stop moaning” or “Star Fox has had a game released a bit ago” type stuff. Some Star Fix hate and Krystal hate comments in there too. But it shows the huge support Star Fox and Krystal has to revive some complaints about the amount of support.
@ Mr. Brownstone – Our team of supporters actually are still quite level-headed and doing what they can and going strong. We just need a steady stream of support, not all at once like it was yesterday. But due to the nature of the event it couldn’t be helped :P. The plan is still in full swing and we are in contact with jordansweeto and following his lead. I am going to be assisting him on twitter as well as checking the video for new posts.
This is the worst time to get demoralized, we need to keep pushing for her if we ever want to see her again.
@Xengo
And all scapegoat accusations disappeared when Zero bombed so hard. A remake of 64, don’t give me the re-imagining crap I hear everywhere, everyone knows it’s a remake and many people didn’t get it because of that fact, the controls were only part of the problem(made much larger because of constant reviews stating such). If you want more proof… look at Star Fox 64 3ds sales on an install base of 50-70 million.. I don’t know the exact numbers and don’t think anyone can. over 6 years it has only accumulated 1 million units in sales.
@Smokey
Zero should have been the haters’ dream game, and guess what, it is the worst selling game of the entire franchise. They always find reasons to complain. If it’s not Krystal, it’s something else. So sad…
Every franchise/game features certain characters people like and don’t like. Krystal being responsible for the ‘downfall’ of the SF series is a made up excuse. Same goes for the controls in Zero. Do you really think many people didn’t buy the game because someone told them the controls are bad? Everyone has to judge for themselves. Just because the controls are bad for others doesn’t mean they cannot work for me. And again, as a true fan you should buy the game, no matter what.
There are many reasons why the sales started to drop. The series itself went a different direction post-SF 64 after all, so blaming it all on Krystal is certainly wrong. Sometimes I wonder where the SF series would be these days if Nintendo had given us a SF game on the Wii. I still think, not giving us one was probably the biggest mistake they made with SF, maybe even bigger than Command and the SF 64 remakes. Not to mention that the remakes probably wouldn’t have happened in the first place if a good SF game existed on the Wii.
@Mr. Brownstone
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna play with fire right now. You know I’m more interested about the demographic of Krystal’s supporters. Sex, age, country of origin (Europe, USA, etc.), ,curries or not
Darn it I pressed post!
@Mr. Brownstone
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna play with fire right now. You know I’m more interested about the demographic of Krystal’s supporters. Sex, age, country of origin (Europe, USA, etc.), ,furries or not, and the reason that people want her in or out. I just want to see the core of this campaign. What are we aiming for. Are we trying to show Krystal’s potentials in smash or showing some awareness to the general public?
Nintendo are looking for questions on their reddit right now.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/6h9s6l/hi_im_mr_koizumi_producer_of_super_mario_odyssey/?st=j3xevex7&sh=a86efa73
The goal of the campaign is to promote Krystal in general, so that she might get included in Smash as well as future SF installments. E3 is the perfect opportunity to show support as it is easier to get Nintendo’s attention when these events take place. Sweeto also sent a tweet to Nintendo of America praising their E3 announcements as well as showing support for Krystal. Apart from making Nintendo aware of Krystal’s support it is also important to get new people aboard the Krystal train. Sweeto wants to create a movement so that Nintendo cannot ignore our desire to see Krystal return any longer.
Well, I have no problem in sharing these information here: Male, 23, I was born and live in Germany but both of my parents are Italian. I’m still a german citizen with german papers though (I’m sure you didn’t see the Italian thing coming :D). I am not a furry, even though I can’t deny that Krystal is indeed sexy. I’m sure you know why I want her to return by now (Telepath and staff user, lots of potential in her backstory and roots, her basic design etc.). So yeah, that’s pretty much it. Oh, and before you ask: I cannot speak Italian. My parents can though. I only know some swear words, of course ;)
The comments are still there, Smokey was able to dig them up, but they’re near the very bottom for some reason. I’m not really sure how that happened. Spam comments held for reviewing wouldn’t be visible at all except to the account owner and the channel in question. It’s hard to guess but If i had to I’m thinking that if a comment receives enough downvotes they go to the bottom. Even though downvoting doesn’t lower amount of upvotes anymore. Also Krystal’s demographic is self-explanatory, you won’t find many outside of your range Brownstone and it will always have a sexual connotation somewhere. Also you might not wanna hear it but likely autism aswell is prevalent in her more dedicated fans. I’m not excluded
It’s true that Zero’s failure shuts up 64 purists, but I still think we’re gonna end up being seen as nuisances more than anything else. With Metroids apparent revival, we’d been seen as more ungrateful; Metroid Prime 4 plus a remake of Metroid 2 is pretty amazing, and part of me feels that Nintendo has chosen Metroid for now.
Assault 2 is what I want for sure, now that it’s shown 64 alone cannot save this franchise. But I wonder how this campaign will work out.
Yeah and the owners of the channel(aka Nintendo) will still see all the comments that we were putting up there. They as the channel owner have more sorting options than we do. And we were loud enough so that they will at least be curious as to what the other comments were talking about.
But the best thing about zero bombing(yes it’s sad that it failed I know… I got the game myself) is that it eliminated krystal as their scapegoat entirely. I was so annoyed by hearing that constantly on forums everywhere.
@Mr. Brownstone
You didn’t actually need to share this information, but I do appreciate it. (and yeah, Itally was a shock)
@Jameson Helmintoller
So, you mean that if somebody likes Krystal, there’s a high chance that the person is a furry?
(stupid stereotypes…)
Well, count me in the exceptions. ;)
Also the comments are pure acid, but is fun digging it out.
@Mr. Brownstone
I was most shocked to hear you were just like me and not a furry. And also like her for being a telepathic staff user with a very appealing aesthetic look. Indeed krystal is sexy and I cannot deny that, but I definitely am not a furry. I do have a lot of furry and brony friends that give me crap though for my views. Haha
@Jimaki I’m beginning to wonder if people anywhere can understand the words I state as if i’m some foreign being incapable of human speech but I digress before I even start.
I stated they are most likely male, within their twenties and having varying degrees of social inability. Furry comes up nowhere in that but feel free to put words in my mouth.
That said Krystal IS a gateway to being a furry, just like weed is a gateway to harder drugs. But the fact of the matter is I’d be impressed to find someone with a meaningful perspective for an affection for Krystal that also didn’t find her attractive as she was MADE to be attractive, that’s why “Everyone is furry for Krystal” exists. Unlike Samus, who was made to be a sexy badass, Krystal hasn’t demonstrated these badass qualities once, That by no extension means she could not be a badass which I get the impression you’d throw on me. Krystal quite truthfully has very little shown outside of her sex appeal, can you name any interesting personality characteristics? her ability with a weapon is merely theorized because canonly she loses it near instantly so that’s questionable at best. Psychic abilities are always sweet, but she hasn’t done much with those either. The point being is if you take her sex appeal away she’s very empty. There’s plenty of potential moving forward to fix that. You take away Samus’s sex appeal you have a trained badass who’s conquered many foes and caused the destruction of two planets. The hope of an ancient benevolent species and the cure to a great poison. her notable personality characteristic is a penchant for revenge as she hunts pirates down and ridley for what they did to her home and her family. Sorry if anyone gets the vibe i’m against the fair vixen but I don’t truthfully understand anyone who likes Krystal but doesn’t find her attractive.
P.S. I have no idea why it’s using/used my real name, for reference krystal did gateway me to furries, only care if they’re sexy or have badass combat powers. and I do not find samus attractive as I find that unholy for my idol.
Sorry for not participating with the Krystal support group. but with how it turned out, I think it’s okay that I sat-out. Sounds like some things got kinda rough. I hope to join next time and help out the team when I get permission to get a YouTube account.
@ Jimaki
Since it’s not too personal, here is my answer. Male, 19 years, California-USA, I am NOT a furry! I’m quite a fan of anthropomorphic animals. In my opinion, Star Fox has the best design for anthropomorphic animals ever! But full-on furies is where you start falling head-over-handlebars into the uncanny valley for me. The reason I want Krystal in the Star Fox is because she expands the world outside of the Lylat system, leading to new levels, game play, and story. Her magic at first seems a bit out of place, but it could add a lot to lore and history to the world. In some episodes of Star Trek, some magic-like science was used, not real magic. Let’s just face it, Krystal is beautiful! (If not kinda cute.) A lot of Krystal’s character descriptions describes her as “Kind” or “Kind of Heart”. A very good trait that needs to be in the in the character and not just the booklet. Also with the loss of Fara from the 1992-1993 Star Fox Comic, Fox needs some one to love. Not to say he doesn’t have friends, he has friends. Just, with the stuff Fox goes through, he needs a potential love interest. The best thing about their relation ship is they both experienced loss. Fox lost his mother and father and it’s unknown about the rest of his family. Krystal lost her entire planet and culture. Not to say they’re depressed, I just feel like they can talk about this together and help one another with a difficult topic.
@N J FOX
i’m good, plan to cheat my way through with action replay (only using infinity heath only) for metroid prime and 2, too bad can’t cheat on 3 though. also it feels weird to play first person shooter with single stick again (used to dual sticks now).
cheat why cheat? you don’t need to cheat I know were everything is from memery except that last missle tank in prime 2 but I never needed to cheat.
@codym512s
You know, when it comes to combining magic and science, SFA has already done it as the Krazoa were able to control dark matter. That’s what the Krazoa Palace map description says. I’ve seen a theory that Krystal’s crystal prison as well as these beams that emerged from the Krazoa heads’ mouths, in some kind of way, used/consisted of dark matter. Maybe that’s how the warping worked on Sauria as well: Using the Krazoa’s dark matter technology. It would also explain Andross’ revival a little bit better. Man, just thinking about this stuff makes me want to have a SFA reimagining right now :)
@ Mr. Brownstone
That’s kinda what I said. I’m just saying that a lot of fans, feel like magic is out of place in the Star Fox world. I’m not one of those fans, I feel like magic is just another thing to have. Just maybe changing the art style to be a bit more like Star Trek, or Final Fantasy VII (a lot less distopian), would make things feel more cohesive for those fans. Or they were never fans and just “SF64 fans” that completely dismiss the Mystical Warp Gate. Yeah, dark matter is a mystery to science, the magic could be just impossible to understand technology. Me too! I would like a remake of any game not SF64!
@codym512s
I thought this was an isolated argument that one rather illogical fellow on Smashboards, Magic is just the unexplained, giving it an explanation makes it science. There’s many who think ground-segments don’t belong in Starfox aswell, but they’re not going anywhere either. So there’s little reason to even bring up that argument. Just more people unable to handle change. Magic and Sci-fi aren’t that different either and have been merged before. SF64 fans are irrelevant. Starfox 64 3DS and Zero not selling, combined with miyamoto’s active desire for new things means that we could see a radically interesting Starfox game.
@Falemirous
“Magic is just the unexplained, giving it an explanation makes it science.”
Actually, that depends on what type of magic you’re talking about. Magic, of the form seen in Star Fox Adventures, is a form of non-material beings interacting with the physical world (the Krazoa Spirits). Magic in things like Harry Potter is an exoteric form of psychic power that can bend the laws of physics and probability. Then, of course, there’s Stage Magic, which is mostly slight of hand and clever ways of fooling people.
Also, having an explanation for something is not science. Science is that which uses the scientific method: theorize, test, gather data, repeat, repeat, repeat. I can know and explain lots of things that do not constitute science: history, logic, math, and emotions. Individual aspects of these things may be testable with science (well, not logic and math), but the things themselves are not science, even though they have explanations.
@all
I always considered people who like anthros, for any reason, to be furries. Although, obviously, if you call yourself a furry, you probably are. I’m just saying, furry fandom is being a fan of furry characters. You can be super into it in an unhealthy way (the furry life-stylers), or you can just like a handful of characters who happen to be anthros. Still furry, though. That’s why I consider myself to be a furry. I like anthro art and many anthro characters. I think furry characters are generally cute, and sometimes attractive. Yet, I do not have a fursona, nor do I think of myself as anything other than human.
@Mr. Krystal
Is it time for us to argue about science again church boy? if it can be done, it can be tested, and it can be studied, i suppose i should clarify scientific explanation. also scientific papers simply SHOULD follow the scientific method. Attempting to analyze something using reason is in fact science if you report or write down your findings. Your definition is far too literal
Am glad to see you calling everyone out about that silly furry thing though
@Falemirous
So it seems.
There is no need for either of us to define science. I subscribe to the actual definition in the dictionary. According to that, science is “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.”
By definition, science excludes the study, even in principle, of the non-physical and the non-material. Math, therefore, cannot be science. Logic cannot be science. A specific claim of history might be scientifically tested, but it is not science in and of itself.
“if it can be done, it can be tested, and it can be studied”
Tell me, what are you thinking about right now? Are your thoughts testable? Can someone directly observe, measure, or study your individual thoughts? Can someone look at your brain, with any instrument, and describe exactly what you are thinking? No. The answer is no. And yet, I presume you still think.
It is amusing that you complain that my definition of science is too literal. Science requires literal, precise thinking.
@Mr. Krystal
We staunchly disagree, and you pulling this example again won’t work on me. There’s plenty of behavioral and thought experiments, and what you’re talking about is something that’s very difficult to study with modern tools, do you think it is impossible to study it simply because we cannot currently accurately view thoughts? I will not be responding further to this argument.
@ Falemirous and Mr. K
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for for starting this argument. I really didn’t want to, I just wanted to have a discussion. I don’t know this was a toutchy subject. I’m just going to come out and say I am autistic. I legitimately have autism. I’m also a little bit socially impaired. Starting to go down the road I was, was a mistake. Please forgive me… =;(
P.S. I am a fan of anthropomorphic animals, but I’m NOT a furry!
P.P.S.
Another fact about me. I’m also a Catholic, not a very good one, but I’m going to keep practicing my faith so I can one day get it right.
@Falemirous
That is your prerogative, sir, but I think that is seriously lame to say, “you’re wrong, your arguments are invalid, and I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” There’s no reasonable way to take that in a positive light.
@codym512s
No worries. He asserts stuff like that every year or so. I call him on it, he refuses to acknowledge my arguments, and nothing changes. Autism has nothing to do with it.
New version of starfox adventures2 is ready.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxYf1-N4WVA0VE9kclBiMkJFY2c?usp=sharing
4 new bosses and a new side quest.
@N J FOX
just wanted to enjoy the game without dying. plus i don’t want to replay the same part where i already been through already.
I did my dues and leave an on topic comment mentioning SF and Krystal without trying to seem too spammy, but in hindsight, it was always going to be a mixed outcome at best. A lot of people just mentioning SF Adventures or Assault remake on a general Nintendo video would likely work fine. A lot of people mentioning Krystal on a SF (or possibly even Smash) related video would also likely work fine. But trying to start a rallying cry for Krystal on that stream without making it seem artificial or just like spam was always going to be very difficult. Even some of the general Starfox comments were met with mixed reactions (like ‘They just announced a bunch of cool games! Why are you being ungrateful?’)
I think we’re on the right track, but it’s going to take refinement to make this work on a popular Nintendo stream/upload. Maybe designating just one or a few people to post a relevant, heartfelt comment that happens to mention Krystal somewhere would come off better. Quality vs quantity and all that. But that does have the problem of smelling of vote manipulation. “Upvote this one particular comment” is much different than “upvote any comment that mentions SF” after all.
Semi relevant: Quite a few people seemed to notice and talk about a random fursuiter that was in the Nintendo booth and caught on the stream for a few minutes. Maybe next year we find a Krystal cosplayer willing to hang around E3 for that? I know that’s a long stretch, but if we managed to pull that off it’d definitely kick off some organic conversation, at the very least.
I’d honestly dress up as her, but it’d require a ton of money for the fact E3 run a lot.
The problem with the Star Fox series is that the gameplay is different with each game. People like 64 the best because it played the best for the genre it was a part of, a typical run-and-gun sci-fi shooter.
Adventures, while a great game in its own right (and one of my favorites), deviated too far from the established control scheme of the previous Star Fox games.
Assault, which was more of a hybrid between Adventures and 64 (albeit leaning more towards 64 in terms of play style), could have been a great game (the greatest in the series) had the on-foot and Landmaster controls not been as sloppy. That said, it’s my favorite Star Fox game.
Command was more of a return to 64’s play style, but was marred by time limits and a turn-based map screen mechanic that left you having to strategize your every move to protect the Great Fox while destroying all enemies, instead of the normal running and gunning you would have been accustomed to in 64. The stylus controls, while not bad, were a major deviation from traditional controls in previous Star Fox games.
And then Zero, which had the chance to truly bring back the gameplay of 64 in all its glory, bungled it with the forced gyroscopic motion controls. Ultimately, having to switch back and forth between the two screens, while having to frequently recalibrate your targeting reticle, ruined Zero for many gamers.
So ultimately, it’s not one character who ruined Star Fox, it’s the gameplay. Whether it’s a deviation from the gameplay we experienced in 64 or sloppy controls that alienate gamers, we have to place the blame on the true culprit for the problems in the series.
