Rumored Star Fox Warriors Was Pitched to Nintendo
Citing sources inside Nintendo, Let's Play Video Games reports that Koei Tecmo, the makers of Hyrule Warriors, pitched a Star Fox themed Warriors game in early 2016. Like Hyrule Warriors, the game would have focused on melee combat, but would also feature simplified space battles. Nintendo reportedly rejected the idea "due to questions regarding the future of the brand."
I for one would have bought and enthusiastically played such a game, in spite of the relatively weird mashup. Stranger mashups have worked in the past. More importantly, Krystal would have certainly been a playable character! Oh well, we'll just have to see where Nintendo takes the series next.

I’d play it shame nintendo turned it down.
Oh well we may see STARFOX WORRIERS at a later date
I’d play this in a heart beat. I hope it gets into the workshop soon
As fun it would have sounded, how will they be able to pull it off? Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that of having on-foot missions in a Starfox game and mix it up with Arwing or Landmaster missions. But I for once am glad that Nintendo rejected the idea for a Starfox Warriors type game. For something like Hyrule Warriors, it makes more sense since that game is all about sword play. Starfox is mostly a space shooter. Yeah it would have been awesome to see also Krystal fight enemies on the ground also with her staff. But as you all know, I would love to see her in Smash more than something like that while using her staff. That is something I’ve been dreaming for ever since Brawl.
Anyway, as for Nintendo rejecting it, something tells me that Nintendo has something planned for the franchise’s future on the Switch(which is likely to happen to come out down the road despite what happened to Zero on the Wii U and its reception even though I enjoyed the game). For that, I rather let a studio like Platinum Games handle it, or Treasure or even Retro Studios. It’ll most likely be Platinum Games since they said it themselves that even after Zero’s release, they are interested in doing a sequel to it which is where Yusuke Hashimoto(director of Zero and Bayonetta 2) comes in. He said that he would love to do it and while Hideki Kamiya(also a Starfox fan) is still working on Scalebound, it wouldn’t surprise me if after he finishes with that game, he would be open for working on a SF sequel with Hashimoto. Since Nintendo are now friends with Platinum Games, hopefully Nintendo lets them take control of it for the sequel. Not to mention that Hashimoto said that he would bring Krystal into the next SF game after Zero. I personally believe that the SF series deserves another chance on the Switch down the road since with how the console is going to be implemented and with their first party IPs, anything is possible. Even Kimishima has said that he will bring every known Nintendo IP onto the Switch like Mario, DK, Zelda, Starfox, Metroid, Pokémon, Kirby, etc. What do you think on all this, Mr. Krystal?
@Dragonheart07
I agree that it makes less sense for Star Fox to have a Warriors game.
I think Retro Studios would be the best developer for the series, followed by Platinum. I suspect that the creators (Mr. Miyamoto and others within Nintendo) have a fundamentally different sense of what a Star Fox game is supposed to be than what the fans expect, and that distance is what’s causing mis-steps.
@Mr. Krystal
True. Anyway, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus and Xenoblade would work better as a Warriors type game. As for the SF series, I doubt the series will be killed off especially after what happened to Zero. Anyone who says online that the series is going to be killed off because of Zero are just over exaggerating there. You said it yourself one time here in this site that Nintendo is not known for killing off their established IPs like that regardless what happens unlike other gaming studios.
Best I can say to all of this is that we’ll get another game to the series likely on the Switch down the road during its life cycle. Do you believe that we’ll get a SF game on the Switch in the future? I do and like I said, it deserves another chance especially with people excited for the Switch. At least the series has become relevant once again. Wouldn’t you agree with me on this, Mr. Krystal?
I don’t mind playing a game like this, I mean think about it. Adventures was more like a Zelda game and yet we all loved it. Surely a warriors Star Fox game couldn’t be too bad. So let’s see what it looks like when the time comes, then judge on what you see.
I pray this “questions about brand” is referring to the Warrior style of game and not Star Fox…
Future of the brand? Don’t make me laugh. How long was it between Command and Zero? If you really care about Star Fox, that’s an awful funny way to show it.
star fox warriors, i only see star fox as a war game like those fps and tps shooters, where corneria amy vs. vemom army probably like a sequel to “assault” without the aproids.
(Mouth drops open and falls on the ground) CLANG!!! Wow-wee! That sounds cool! Fox did use a sword in the Star Fox comics (Farewell Beloved Falco), and in S.S.B. he can do marshal arts and the “Fire Fox” (A.K.A. magic.) it could all mast work! Even big Event Horizon boss fights would be awesome! Krystal could really kick some tail! She specializes in hand-to-hand combat and would be nice to see!
I can understand from Hyrule Warriors perspective it seems odd for a Lylat Warriors game. However there is also a Warriors game based on mecha called Gundam. Yes some of the mecha have a beam sword but they also heavily use guns. So I can definitely see how a Lylat Warriors game could work. Although would hope they would get someone else to do the arwing sections.
i think Star Fox Wars would be cooler for a title and play the characters in the game from ships, tanks, guns, and melee. and you can go to space and travel on ground.
