AlphaYes 3D Prints and Paints Krystal… a lot!
DeviantArt user AlphaYes has been 3D printing and painting Krystal models since around March 2018, starting with the 3D printable trophy model I released. Since then, he has expanded to another trophy model from the games, and a variation of his own in his latest post. The painting job looks really great.
Just about anyone can do the same thing with a $200 3D printer, some paint, and free software. Isn't technology amazing?

RobynHoody Krystal Cosplay at A-Kon 2018
I found out about this cosplay a while back, but I'm finally able to post about it. RobynHoody (as she goes by on DeviantArt) attended A-Kon 2018 in Dallas Texas last year. The cosplay features an Assault suit, a minigun, ears, a wig, jewelry, a tail, and face paint. From the looks of the photos, it was a very difficult cosplay due to the summer heat. She cosplayed together with Grinn3r, who cosplayed Fox.
Thanks to Grinn3r for source materials.
Star Fox Nod in Marvel Comic
In a recent issue of Ms. Marvel Team-Up (pretty sure it's this one), RawmeatCowboy of GoNintendo found a quick nod to Star Fox, where one character is referring to Marvel's Star Fox character (1973) is mixed up with Star Fox, the video game series, by another character.
Short, sweet, clever.
Star Fox: Event Horizon Updates
Speaking of not dead, UndyingNephalim has posted a couple of videos about his fangame Star Fox: Event Horizon. The game has been on the back burner for a while so he could focus on his other big game (Hyrule: Total War), but he has continued to make slow progress with it. In the video above, you can see an all out battle between the various dinosaur tribes of Sauria, with the Star Fox team and Krystal coming to assist in the fight against General Scales.
Earlier last month, UndyingNephalim showed off a complication video of all the talking character portraits used in the game, which you can see below.
Looks like he's ramping up work on it again, so maybe we'll see a new release in the coming months.
Waiting on Site Updates
Been a long time, hasn't it? I wanted to let you all know what's going on with the site given the lack of recent updates.
First off, this year has been hectic in real life for me. Very very busy and a lot of travel. I got out of the habit of updating every day, and it became very difficult to start back up again. I'll work to make that a priority again.
However, that doesn't mean I haven't been preparing things. Over the last two months or so, I've been restarting the fanart archival process. As of last night, over 17,500 Krystal fanarts have been downloaded, totaling over 17 GB of files, ready for categorization and listing on the site. Not all of them will make it on the site, however. That number represents everything on DeviantArt (ever!) that is possibly Krystal related and clean. In the process of grabbing them, some might not be actually Krystal, and there are other things to filter out. But once that's done, we'll have the fanart section again: a fully searchable table of all known Krystal fanart on DeviantArt. After that, I'll move on to FurAffinity.
Of course, the Krystal Archive Discord Server is still active and constantly updated. I'm there all the time, and some of our members are working on some very interesting projects. I'll be posting about a couple in the coming days.
So as always with these kinds of posts. Sorry for being so dead around here. But don't worry, I have no intention of stopping the site. It's been around for over 13 years, and I'm not about to shut it down now.
Talos Principle Krystal Easter Egg
As promised in the post about the Krystal Easter Egg in Serious Sam 3 I contacted Anton Antonov Marinov, the 3D Environment Artist artist for Ubisoft, whose developer sign in the game featured Krystal. I had heard he put another, similar Krystal Easter Egg in another game, and he confirmed to me that it was in the The Talos Principle, a first-person puzzle game.
In The Talos Principle, there's a secret "developer island" where among other things, you will find sign posts from various people who worked on the game. Anton likes to mention Krystal in his, and this is no exception:
Anton "Mischievous" Antonov Marinov
He got to live forever after all.
Took the frogs and the rocks
and the trees and Krystal and
all of the other persons with
him too.
The icon of Krystal featured on the sign is actually a mirrored version of '...and you need Krystal's help' by Cammiluna, one of the older Krystal fanarts in the world (April 2, 2005).
Check out the video below to see where the sign is located in-game. Video by Marble Entertainment.
(PS - While researching this post, I found out that Mr. Marinov has commented here on the Krystal Archive before. But only once, in 2011, probably while he was working on Serious Sam 3.)
E3 2019
It's that time again! E3 has officially begun. Lots of interesting announcements from several companies have already happened and there will be more over the next two days. Nintendo had their World Championship Tournaments where they announced a final Splatfest for Splatoon 2 and confirmed that the next Smash DLC fighter will be revealed at the E3 Nintendo Direct on Tuesday.
Speaking of Nintendo's next Direct, it will be the last of the major presentations before the show floor opens. You can watch it live, at the stream above on June 11th at 9AM Pacific (12PM Eastern). After that, it will be hours of continuous streaming from Nintendo's Treehouse Live program about all the announcements.
I don't expect to see anything from Star Fox or Metroid this year (except maybe Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch), but there are sure to be some new surprises! Don't get too hyped, and enjoy the show!
Star Foxxed Lovers
I'm late to the party, but check out this extended music video from the previously posted Something About Star Fox 64 by TerminalMontage. In this video, we get to see Fox and crew experience time in a non-linear fashion, and Krystal, someone Fox hasn't met yet, appears to him and they dance in space. It's very sweet. But... Krystal has to leave. Enable the Closed Captions for some funny text to go with the video. There's an implication that an animation called "Something About Star Fox Adventures" is coming at some point. Can't wait!
You can even watch a 10 Hour Version if you just like the song that much.
Which brings me to why I'm posting this now. TerminalMontage is offering a limited time print of Fox and Krystal on his store called Star-Foxxed Lovers. You can find shirts, jackets, and posters of this scene available, but only until May 23rd. Get yours while you can. (He has limited HIYAA products too).
Krystal Smash Artbook Project Announced
Krystal Joins the Fight, a Krystal for Smash promotion group, has just announced a new collaborative project. Here's the scoop:
- Get a bunch of fanartists to draw a new, Smash Bros focused Krystal fanart for Nintendo in support of Krystal being made into a playable fighter.
- Gather those fanarts and notes of support together and have them professionally printed into an artbook.
- Send the artbook to Nintendo and show them our support for Krystal in a fun, appreciative way. We know they love fanart!
BONUS: After it's sent to Nintendo, the artbook files will be released so every Krystal fan can print up their own artbook and see the artwork! I plan to make myself a copy.
Are you interested in helping out? Check out the rules in the image, and you can also check the official post. The deadline for submissions is August 17th.
