Gensou Ichida’s “Dinosaur Planet – A Case for a Remake”
Gensou Ichida, aka kokorogensou, has uploaded a video essay about Dinosaur Planet, its history, the rising interest, and the potential for a fan or official remake. The essay is made up of two parts. In part one, Gensou goes over the history of development for the game. She covers the initial creations, and public appearances of the game, as well as the transition to Star Fox Adventures. Also covered is the extensive set of assets that have been gleaned from early copies of Star Fox Adventures.
Part two goes into more depth about the needs and challenges of a remake. This includes copyright issues, art asset creation, and programming. It includes more details about hidden story elements found within the source code that could be used to direct the story of the potential remake.
With over a decade of exploration and research into Dinosaur Planet, Gensou is one of the best sources of information on the long lost game. Though this essay doesn't cover everything, it is pretty effective at summing up the whole situation with Dinosaur Planet and the realistic problems a fan or official remake would have to overcome.
SchattenKitsune666’s Updated MMD Krystal Rig Video
SchattenKitsune666 already released his updated MMD rig, but never got a chance to make a video demo, until a couple days ago. Here it is! It shows off Krystal's unbanded tail, ear physics, head jewelry, and a bunch of small fixes. Krystal sings and dances along to I Love You, My One and Only by Remix 8 (Japanese) from the game Rhythm Heaven Fever. I really like the way the animation works with this model. I think the next thing that could really improve her from here is to animate more of the mouth and hair. Right now, her mouth just opens and closes, without effecting the lips and cheeks. Meanwhile, the hair doesn't have the same expressiveness that the ears and tail now have. I hope to see even more improvements in the future.
Final Vulpine Media Photos of Furry Fiesta 2017 Krystal Cosplay
Finishing out editing of his 1700+ photos, Vulpine Media has sent in 34 new photos of Ayano Harumaki as Krystal at Furry Fiesta 2017. The extremely high quality photos have been uploaded to Flickr. As before, they're in the Krystal Cosplay Group, as well as the Furry Fiesta 2017 album, starting with the image above. Thanks so much to Vulpine Media for being the photographer and editor. Thanks to Ayano Harumaki for modeling for us and letting us follow her around. Sorry for the huge delay in videos from the con. They're going to take a lot of editing.
New Ayano Video from 2010
Ayano Harumaki posted a short video on her Twitter yesterday. It's low quality, but this is the very first recorded time she wore the suit, Ayano stating that this was the first fitting! The video was recorded in her hotel room during Further Confusion 2010, the debut of the cosplay. So cool to see the beginnings of what would go on to become so popular and visible.
Official Super Nintendo Book “Super Power” Mentioned Krystal and Me
The SNES Classic came out a while ago, along with Prima's "Playing with Super Power" book. It's chock-full of Nintendo development documents, game info, trivia, fanart, and other fan activity features. Definitely worth a read. I didn't realize until weeks later that I had been mentioned in the book! Right there on page 309, under the Starfox-Online.net section. Probably the only time Mr. Krystal has (or will?) be mentioned in a book:
Although it existed in some form since 2004, StarFox-Online was given new life in 2006 by two community members, "DZComposer" and "Mr. Krystal". "StarFox-Online was intended as a place to aggregate information about the Star Fox series, and as somewhere where fans could share art and stories as well as participate in discussion and roleplay involving the Star Fox universe," explained site administrator "Sawtooth".
The book researchers are right on about the history of the site. Some of my interactions there led me to decide to create the Krystal Archive, since I had a lot of Krystal-specific knowledge and no good place to put it all. The original owner had disappeared prior to my joining the site in 2005 as a very active member. Then, in 2006, the site went down. The original owner had let things expire and we were unable to contact him. I volunteered to take up the mantle, and DZComposer asked to be a partner. Together, we built the site up to the beginnings of what it is today. I was largely in charge of site content and news, while DZComposer largely ran the forums. I worked on the site until 2010, a few months after the above screenshot was taken. Sadly, some disagreements about how the site should be run led me to voluntarily step down from an admin position. But, as you guys know, I didn't stop. The Star Fox news I might have otherwise posted there came here, to the Krystal Archive. I have even grander plans for Star Fox in the future, as well.
Plus, they showed a screenshot of my Starfox-Online theme, the height of internet technology at the time. :)
Meanwhile, it's not just me that was featured in the book. Our beloved blue vixen was mentioned too!
Krystal
The four pilots from the original Star Fox make up the main characters of all Star Fox games with one exception: following the events of Star Fox Adventures, that game's co-protagonist, Krystal, joins the Star Fox crew in Peppy's place.

Star Fox Adventures is also particularly notable for the first appearance of Krystal, Fox's romantic interest and eventual mainstay of the franchise.
Page 136, paragraph 8
Developed by Namco, Star Fox: Assault follows the events of Star Fox Adventures, with Krystal replacing Peppy Hare as the fourth member of Star Fox. Gameplay built upon Star Fox 64's mechanics, while adding on-foot single-player sequences and expanded multiplayer.

This might be old news to a lot of you, but I wanted to publish about this to make sure it's archived. Prima's "Playing with Super Power" book is for sale as a hardback for $27, softcover for $15, or eGuide for $10 (which is where I obtained the screens and text). The eGuide comes free with the purchase of a physical version.
Official Nintendo eBay Store Selling Star Fox Zero Amiibo Bundle VERY Cheap
Speaking of eBay, Nintendo's official account on eBay is selling Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard, and a Smash Bros Fox Amiibo as a bundle for only $25. When you subtract the $9 price of a Fox Amiibo, you're getting both games for about $16. Yeah, this is probably Nintendo trying to get rid of excess stock of a game they thought would be a hit that ended up being a flop. But hey, their loss is your gain! I purchased one just so I can say I have a sealed copy of the games. Given the track record of the Wii U, I imagine it will become the gaming world's next Dreamcast: under-appreciated and under-utilized. Eventually collectors will seek out the system for its relative rarity and the fact that it had some genuinely great games. Visit the eBay listing to get yours. As of now, they've sold 614 of these.
Handmade Krystal Sculpture on eBay
eBay user fxfrenikk found a Krystal sculpture in his storage. I've never seen this sculpture before, but apparently fxfrenikk bought it from someone about 15 years ago. That would have been almost as soon as Star Fox Adventures came out.
The sculpture itself features Krystal in a casual shirt and jeans. It was made from scratch using hard resin, then painted. At some point, the head apparently broke off, but was repaired. The tail is removable and is a separate piece. The figure is 8.5 inches tall.
The auction is going on for the next two days. No one has bid yet, and it has a starting bid of $35. You can buy it right now for $50. Visit the Auction Page for more information and photos.
Thanks to Angelin for the heads up.
EDIT: And... it's gone. It had to have been someone who saw the blog or my twitter post. Who bought it?
EDIT 2: One of our Discord users, XCABAL, bought the sculpture. He will post pictures when he gets it.
Krystal Dice Bag
There's something you don't see everyday in the world of Krystal fanmade goods. ScrubzyFox sent in this handmade Krystal-themed dice bag, perfect for bringing your set of D20's to DnD night.
The stones on the ends are lapis. The bag itself uses stockinette stitch, while the embroidery was done with duplicate stitch. He used worsted weight yarn and constructed it with 4.5mm knitting needles. The drawstring is i-cord. The stone pendant is jasper. All of these supplies can be obtained at Michaels craft stores.
Pigma Appears – Star Fox Assault Cutscene [4K]
YOU MUST JOIN US... Pigma reveals his final form as an assimilated Aparoid biomachine. The Star Fox team finally catches up and begins battle with this poor, miserable creature.
This week's Star Fox Assault cutscene is an in-level scene. As a result, there's no difference between the animation of the English and Japanese versions, though the Japanese version is included for fun anyway. Both of these videos are at the massive, beautiful 4K quality.
Crystal Fox in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
So the people making the next Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, posted a short video about how they made the "crystal fox" animal character, known as a vulptex. Now, this is not the Krystal fox we know and love, but you know what, I'll take the Google spell-checker redirects to the Krystal Archive. "Sorry did you mean to search for Krystal fox?"
But seriously, the animatronics and CGI look pretty sweet. And yeah, this is VERY tangentially related to Krystal or Star Fox, but it's Thanksgiving, and I wanted to post something today!
Anyway, thank you all for coming to the site and reading what I have to say. I hope you and your family get to spend time together and think about all the ways in which you are thankful.
